In a time when American ideals are epitomized by nationalism and aggression, VOICES 21C aligns itself with the great American voices of compassion, love, and non-violence. VOICES 21C is an artists collective that is devoted to exercising the choral art in pursuit of human rights and justice and dedicated to a mission of global understanding through music.

We explore improvisational and interdisciplinary modes of performance through co-creating and utilizing an egalitarian consensus model.

Jaida says: "I was super nervous about joining because I'm not a "vocalist" but everyone is very kind and supportive in both an artistic and social manner. I love that the group doesn't just sing about matters of social justice but actively rallies behind causes that fuel the mission."

"VOICES21C has been such a welcoming and opening community - which is especially impressive as a new person stepping into a group with such strong connections. I also love how everyone truly has a voice throughout the creative process - it helps everyone take risks and try new things because of the deep reflection without judgment that we give to each piece and performance."

VOICES21C is full of gratitude for our time in Montréal at the World Conference last week.

In addition to our performance on the International Concerts series, we participated in the book launch for Music Education in South Asia: Context and Practice, edited by André de Quadros and Sandra Oberoi, and a panel titled Music-Making in Prisons: Sustainability, Programming, and Working within Systems We Reject, featuring our longtime collaborator and featured composer of our concert program Wayland X Coleman.

Our time in Montréal was transformative and we're grateful for new connections, inspiration, and a reaffirmed commitment to the work of building a freer world. For more info abut our work, connect with us on social media or visit our website voices21c.org

Please join us in signing the petition to free Wayland Coleman from his wrongful imprisonment at freewayland.org.
