EDIT!!! Hey lovely people. We see lots of people liking this post and even commenting on it. That's great, but it won't help this dog. Please share if you care!

This is something different for us because we do not normally promote dogs that are up for adoption. There are so many groups and organisations that do such a fantastic job with that. We tend to focus on sterilisation organisations.

However, if you've read our recent blog about the extraordinary organisation .ac and its history, you'll have seen some photos of some of the special dogs in their kennels.

We wrote about AFAD because of their unique purpose built sterilisation clinic, where they offer low cost spay and neuter surgeries every other weekend. But they also have a rehoming centre and how could we not meet some of the utterly delightful residents without sharing their stories and hopefully giving them a chance of a life outside of a kennel environment.

We all know that no matter how good the kennel, how loving the staff, how much time and effort is put into rehabilitation and care, it's still a kennel.

These dogs, especially as they've come from tough lives, deserve the chance to experience cuddling up on the sofa with their family, having someone to wake up in the morning for attention, people to share adventures with.

So, we're going to start with this special girl. Lidia, the President of AFAD told us that Dr. Jeff told her that amputees, known affectionately as tripods, are always adopted quickly in shelters because people have soft hearts and want to help.

Unfortunately, Ermita, this gorgeous 'Maya Hunting Dog' (that's the name we've given these yellow dogs found in every Yucatecan village and we won't have any arguments about it) hasn't had that kind of luck.

A street dog from the La Ermita area, she was hit by a car, which led to her amputation. She's a sweetheart and gets on with some dogs. About 3-4 years old, she's been in kennels far too long and needs a human to give her belly rubs.

Maybe you could be that person and be the best friend to this very special girl.
