June was a month of learning, creativity, and connection at TOLC.
From workshops and tutoring sessions to community activities, students continued building skills, confidence, and new opportunities for their future.
Every class attended, every question asked, and every goal achieved is possible thanks to the support of our community.
Thank you for being part of this journey and helping make education accessible for Oaxaca’s youth.

One of the most beautiful things about The Oaxaca Learning Center is how often support comes full circle.
Students arrive looking for help with a class, a test, or a difficult moment in school.
Over time, they build confidence. They continue their education. They discover new goals. They become professionals, teachers, nurses, mentors, nonprofit leaders, and advocates.
And many continue to give back.
That is the kind of impact that cannot be measured only in one semester or one school year.
When students are supported, their growth can ripple outward into families, classrooms, workplaces, and communities.
This is what long-term investment in students can make possible.

A computer lab is not just a room with technology.
For students at TOLC, access to a computer can mean being able to complete homework, research assignments, practice digital skills, apply for opportunities, and stay connected to school.
For students who may not have reliable access to internet or technology at home, this kind of space matters.
It helps level the playing field.
It gives students the tools to participate more fully in their education.
And it reminds them that they deserve access to the resources they need to succeed.
Your support helps keep these tools available to students.

A week at The Oaxaca Learning Center can hold so much.
A student getting help with a difficult subject.
A tutor explaining the lesson one more time.
Time in the computer lab to finish homework or build digital skills.
A workshop, a conversation, a moment of encouragement.
A young person realizing they can keep going.
At TOLC, support happens in small, steady moments — and those moments add up.
Week by week, students are building confidence, skills, connection, and momentum for what comes next.
Thank you for being part of the community that makes this possible.

When volunteers come to TOLC, they often arrive ready to teach, tutor, or support students.
But again and again, they also leave having learned.
One volunteer reflected that her time at the Learning Center gave her the opportunity to learn from students about Mexican culture, their goals for the future, and the ways people can support one another as they work toward those goals.
That is the heart of this community.
TOLC is not a place where support moves in only one direction. It is a place of exchange, connection, and shared learning.
Students gain academic support, encouragement, and access to new opportunities.
Volunteers gain perspective, relationships, and the chance to be part of something deeply rooted in community.
Together, they remind us that education is not only about information.
It is also about connection.

When a student falls behind, the story is rarely simple.
It is easy to assume a student is not trying hard enough.
But many students face barriers that have nothing to do with motivation.
A school may not have teachers for key subjects.

A family may not be able to afford private tutoring.

A student may not have reliable internet or a quiet place to study.

A young person may need academic support, emotional support, or simply someone who helps them make a plan.
At TOLC, students receive free tutoring, mentoring, and support that helps remove some of these barriers.
Because when students have the right support, they can keep going.

At TOLC, support does not stop with the student.
Families are part of the learning community too.
In a recent interview, the mother of a scholarship student shared that the workshops offered through the program have helped her in life, in her professional life, and especially emotionally.
That kind of support matters.
Because when a parent or caregiver feels more supported, informed, and connected, that support can reach the whole family.
Students do not learn in isolation.
They learn inside families, homes, communities, and relationships.
That is why TOLC’s work includes not only tutoring and scholarships, but also workshops, mentoring, and spaces for families to grow alongside their students.

A good teacher does more than explain a lesson.
- They notice when a student is struggling.
- They make space for questions.
- They help a young person try again after feeling discouraged.
- They remind students that needing help does not mean they are not capable.
Today, on Teacher’s Day in Mexico, we are celebrating the teachers, tutors, and mentors who make TOLC such a powerful place of learning.
Many TOLC tutors understand the barriers students face because they come from similar backgrounds. They bring knowledge, patience, and care into every class.
For students, that kind of support can change everything.
To the educators who help students believe in themselves and keep moving forward: thank you.
Feliz Día del Maestro.

Today is Mother’s Day in Mexico, and we are honoring the mothers, grandmothers, aunts, caregivers, and family members who help students keep going.

For many students, education is not an individual journey.

It is a family effort. It is the mother who looks for support when her child is struggling. The caregiver who encourages them after a hard week. The family member who believes there must be a way forward, even when the path is not clear yet.

When the mother of one TOLC scholarship student was asked where she sees her son Diego in five years, she answered simply:

“As a professional.”

That hope is powerful.

And when students and families are surrounded by support, that hope has somewhere to grow.

Feliz Día de las Madres.

When we talk about scholarships, it is easy to focus only on the financial support.
And that support matters.
But in a recent interview, the mother of one TOLC scholarship student shared something deeper.
She explained that the scholarship helps her family economically, but not only economically. It also supports learning and development for her son, for her, and for their family.
That is the heart of community-rooted education.
A scholarship can help a student stay in school.
It can also bring relief to a family, create space for learning, and help a young person continue building toward the future.
At TOLC, support reaches beyond the classroom.
It reaches families.
