BYTE is a binational organization that provides sports training, art, and academic programs to youth on both sides of the Nogales, Sonora border. 🇺🇸🇲🇽

Border Youth Tennis Exchange (BYTE) is a bi-national initiative that provides afterschool tennis training and a specialized National Junior Tennis and Learning (NJTL) educational curriculum that enhances opportunities for low-income youth on both sides of the US/Mexico border. Operating in the twin cities Nogales, AZ and Nogales, Sonora, BYTE programming highlights the shared characteristics betwe

en the children of ‘Ambos Nogales’—meaning ‘both’ or ‘together.’ NJTL life skills activities are taught both in the classroom and on the tennis court and cross-border projects and exchanges are used to promote international trust and bi-cultural immersion. The BYTE Core Development Program invites visiting artists, scholars, and community figures to act as inspirational role models who can also draw attention to regional interests that span across the wall. BYTE bridges the gap between historically similar communities to reclaim prejudiced and destructive border narratives from divisive politics. By empowering traditionally overlooked communities as global youth ambassadors, BYTE offers a new model for geopolitical interaction and bi-national grassroots cooperation.

BYTE recently had an exciting volleyball tournament with ! The volleyball tournament was played in three sets and was full of laughter, competition, and true sports spirit. To close, we delivered a special trophy and recognitions to all participants. Thanks to the KBI team and the BYTE staff, whose coordination made possible a unique and memorable Friday afternoon. 🤝🏐

BYTE tuvo recientemente un emocionante torneo de voleibol con ! El torneo de voleibol se jugó a tres sets y estuvo lleno de risas, competencia y verdadero espíritu deportivo; la diversión fue la gran protagonista de la tarde. Para cerrar, entregamos un trofeo especial y reconocimientos a todas y todos los participantes. Gracias al equipo de KBI y al staff de BYTE, cuya coordinación hizo posible una tarde de viernes única y memorable. 🤝🏐

El cierre de actividades de BYTE fue pura alegría: los practicantes apoyaron sirviendo comida a los niños y niñas, mientras la coach Lorena coordinó una tarde llena de juegos de pelota, diversión y risas.

Nos acompañaron el coach Diego, la directora de operaciones mexicanas Jacksubeli y Alexander, quien aplicó encuestas para escuchar las voces de los participantes y seguir creciendo juntos como comunidad. ☀️🤸‍♀️👟

The closing of BYTE’s activities was pure joy: the participants served food to the boys and girls, while Coach Lorena coordinated an afternoon full of ball games, fun and laughter.

We were accompanied by Coach Diego, Jacksubeli, the Director of Mexican operations, and Alexander, who applies surveys to listen to the voices of the participants in order to continue growing together as a community. ☀️🤸‍♀️👟

Check this out! BYTE held a special class for people in wheelchairs. Under the direction of coach Richard Lopez, and trainers Juan Manuel and Diego from BYTE’s sports development team, they coordinated with the Municipal Sports Institute of Nogales, Sonora to conduct an informative session on care and exercise for people with this disability. Coach Richard told the story of his learning process and gave valuable advice to the young men and women of Casa de la Misericordia.

During the session, the children and their families climbed into several wheelchairs provided by the municipality. They learned how to warm up properly, how to move around, and then had fun playing several games! The highlight was the hard-fought basketball games that Coach Richard coordinated. Thanks for this great day! 👨‍🦽💪🏀

BYTE celebró una clase especial dirigida a personas en silla de ruedas. Bajo la dirección del coach Richard López, los entrenadores Juan Manuel y Diego del equipo de desarrollo deportivo se coordinaron con el Instituto Municipal del Deporte de Nogales, Sonora, para llevar a cabo una sesión informativa sobre cuidados y ejercicios para personas con esta discapacidad. El coach Richard relató la historia de su proceso de aprendizaje y dio valiosos consejos a los y las jóvenes de Casa de la Misericordia.

Durante la sesión, los niños/niñas, cuidadores y familiares se subieron a varias sillas de ruedas que proporcionó el municipio. Aprendieron a como calentar apropiadamente, a moverse en estas y luego a divertirse en varios emocionantes juegos ¡Lo más sobresaliente, fueron los reñidos partidos de basquetbol que el coach Richard coordinó! Gracias por este día genial!👨‍🦽💪🏀
