SALMOS 107:25, 29

“Porque habló, e hizo levantar un viento tempestuoso, Que encrespa sus ondas.
Cambia la tempestad en sosiego, Y se apaciguan sus ondas.” “Cambia la tempestad en sosiego, Y se apaciguan sus ondas.”

This song has been in my head for a good few months now, and I decided to have the teens play it. I know the words to most every song are "beautiful " but ones like this touch my heart in a different way. What an encouragement it should be to us to know how much the God of Heaven loves us; takes care of us. The God that created this world. That moves the oceans but also calms them, cares for us and calms our storms. He's with us through the good and bad. The easy and difficult. The ups and the downs. The sunshine and the shadows.

Lyrics:

I Believe in God
Creo En Dios

ESTROFA 1:
How can you not believe in God?
¿Como puedes no creer en Dios?

How can you try to ignore His voice?
¿Como intentas ignorar su voz?

He has shown us His great wonders

You can see His power
Puedes ver, su poder

He eclipses the Sun, making it dim
Él eclipsa el Sol hasta opacar

The darkest night shines bright
La más densa noche hace brillar

He transforms everything in His sovereign design
Todo lo transforma en su designio soberano

Because He is God, only He is God
Porque es Dios, solo Él es Dios

CORO:
I believe in God, His voice stirs the wind and sea in a storm

And by His raised hand, soon it will be still
Y por su mano alzada pronto callará

Even when everything seems lost, I
Aun cuando todo esté perdido yo

I believe in God, because He is my hope in the midst of pain

Confidently, I will sing of His great salvation
Confiado cantaré su grande salvación

Because I live and believe in God
Porque vivo y creo en Dios

ESTROFA 2:
God wraps the world in His love
Dios al mundo envuelve con su amor

His justice and tender compassion
Su justicia y tierna compasión

Yet His grace reaches all who repent

And cry out to Him, only to Him
Clama a Él, solo a Él

And even if you can't see Him
Y aunque no lo puedas vislumbrar

God is always faithful till the end
Dios es siempre fiel hasta el final

Because He has promised to walk by our side
Porque ha prometido caminar a nuestro lado

He is near, because He is God
Cerca está, porque Él es Dios

CORO:
I believe in God, His voice stirs the wind and sea in a storm

And by His raised hand, soon it will be still
Y por su mano alzada pronto callará

Even when everything seems lost, I
Aún cuando todo esté perdido yo

I believe in God, because He is my hope in the midst of pain

Confidently, I will sing of His great salvation
Confiado cantaré su grande salvación

Because I live and believe in God
Porque vivo y creo en Dios

Learn something new everyday. The scripture that this song is based off of is quite interesting and one that I never would have correlated it with.

1. Verse 1: Entering the Garden Alone“I come to the garden alone, while the dew is still on the roses...”

The Scripture Connection: John 20:11 states that "Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping." John 20:1 also notes that she arrived "early, when it was yet dark."

The Parallel: The hymn captures Mary Magdalene arriving at the tomb completely alone in the early, quiet hours of the morning while the dew is still fresh.

2. Verse 1 Continued: Hearing the Voice “And the voice I hear, falling on my ear, the Son of God discloses.”

The Scripture Connection: John 20:14-15 records that she "saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus... She, supposing him to be the gardener..."

The Parallel: Before she fully recognizes him, she hears his voice speaking to her. The song highlights the moment Jesus speaks and "discloses" (reveals) his true identity to her.

3. The Chorus: Walking, Talking, and Recognition “And He walks with me, and He talks with me, and He tells me I am His own; and the joy we share as we tarry there, none other has ever known.”

The Scripture Connection: John 20:16 says, "Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master."

The Parallel: The turning point of the scripture is when Jesus speaks her name, "Mary." This intimate recognition is the foundation of the chorus. He claims her as "His own," changing her deepest grief into a private, unparalleled joy.

4. Verse 2: The Acoustic Environment “He speaks, and the sound of His voice is so sweet the birds hush their singing...”

The Scripture Connection: John 20:15-16 captures their brief, intense dialogue.

The Parallel: The hymn writer, C. Austin Miles, stated that when he read this passage, he imagined the absolute silence of the garden as Jesus spoke Mary's name. The lyrics poetically exaggerate this silence by claiming even the birds stopped to listen to the sweetness of His voice.

5. Verse 3: The Command to Leave “I’d stay in the garden with He tho’ the night around me be falling, but He bids me go; thro’ the voice of woe, His voice to me is calling.”

The Scripture Connection: In John 20:17 (the verse immediately following), Jesus tells her, "Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them..."

The Parallel: Just as Mary wants to cling to Jesus and stay in that moment forever, Jesus "bids her go." She is given a mission to leave the peaceful garden and carry the news back to a grieving world ("thro' the voice of woe").

The teens have been practicing this song for a couple of months, and the common question even became "didn't we already play this song?!". I can finally say "yes, we did". I missed the ones who weren't able to be here today, but good job to you all in general. You did a beautiful job.

“Él les dijo: Lo que es imposible para los hombres, es posible para Dios. ”
SAN LUCAS 18:27

I try to make a habit of not repeating songs, but I have started taking requests from the teens of songs we have played in the past, and this was the first. Did we already play it this year? We sure did. Did they do a better job the second time around? I think so!

I definitely miss playing the violin with them, but being in front is like my own personal concert every week, and it is such an experience! I wish everyone else got to hear it to the extent that I do.

Thank you OJMS for all of your hard work that you put in every week. You guys have come SO far, and I love getting to watch first hand God grow this ministry and use you all. Stay strong 💪.

Rehearsing.

Missing many of the youth, but the show must go on.

This song was definitely a challenging piece. From months of postponing to the lights going out in the middle and having to repeat it the next week. It was a music piece that they requested many times to not play, and one that taught them many new techniques and styles, but they got through it and played well.

This was the best video we got of them playing the song. Often times the best times are during rehearsal or mic check. We hope that you enjoy it and that it encourages you to look up the lyrics. Don't forget to take God along with you during the day. He's the One who will get you through it.

This was a song that the kids played in the teen conference last year, and I would say they did an even better job on it this year! Looking back a year, it's very neat to see how far they have come.

Seeing God grow this ministry and use this group has been such a joy and a blessing. I love watching God work and grow his ministries. Thank you, for all your work and dedication to this ministry.

This song was like a full circle moment. It was requested by one of our flutist, and I can recall playing this in the orchestra back when I recently moved to Mexico. It was the largest orchestra I had played in, yet, and now getting to hear play it was a very neat moment! They did a wonderful job, and *almost* 😉 every week they make me all the more proud of them. August has a really neat song line up, and I'm excited for you all to hear it.

I recently saw a video of the very first offertory played, and let me tell you. You all have come so far! Keep up the good work, and always remember who you are playing for.
