Foremost is the world-renowned Fulbright Program, which IIE has administered on behalf of the U.S. The Institute also serves corporations, foundations, and government agencies worldwide, making available testing and advising services, scholarships, information on opportunities for international study, emergency assistance to students and scholars, and the IIENetwork membership program that links colleges and universities around the globe. ¿Cómo se fortalece la enseñanza del cuando no existe un solo contexto para enseñarlo?

Esa pregunta guio nuestra más reciente Gira de Talleres TOEFL ITP 2026, con sedes regionales en los Institutos Tecnológicos de , y .

Participaron cerca de 60 profesionales de la enseñanza y gestión del inglés de más de 20 tecnológicos, desde Teapa y la Chontalpa en Tabasco y la Sierra Norte de Puebla hasta Monclova y Matamoros.

En las conversaciones aparecieron trayectorias muy distintas: desde quienes comienzan hasta quienes suman 50 años frente al aula. Han trabajado con diferentes edades y niveles, algunos con grupos de más de 60 estudiantes y en comunidades donde el inglés puede ser incluso una tercera lengua, en un país que reconoce 68 ́genas nacionales.

Una de las cosas que más llamó la atención fue lo que ocurría cuando una actividad abría la conversación. Los participantes empezaban a comparar sus realidades, compartir lo que les funcionaba —y lo que no— y reconocer problemáticas que también aparecían en contextos muy distintos al suyo.

En esas conversaciones surgieron retos comunes en el aprendizaje de sus estudiantes: seguir el desarrollo de una idea, relacionar información, hacer inferencias y construir significado directamente en inglés.

Son también habilidades que evalúa TOEFL ITP. La evaluación puede dejar de ser solo un punto de llegada y servir también como punto de partida para reflexionar sobre la enseñanza.

Trabajar a escala no significa estandarizar la enseñanza. Significa poner experiencias en conversación y construir respuestas desde cada contexto.

La gira formó parte de nuestra colaboración con el Tecnológico Nacional de México, la institución de educación superior tecnológica más grande del país, donde se forman alrededor de cuatro de cada diez ingenieros de México.

Para nuestro equipo de Assessment de IIE Mexico City, este trabajo conecta directamente con la misión global del Institute of International Education (IIE): contribuir a futuros más prometedores a través de la educación y el aprendizaje a lo largo de la vida, ampliando las posibilidades que el inglés puede abrir para los estudiantes.

Tres sedes, muchas realidades y una conclusión sencilla: el contexto importa, y la experiencia de quienes enseñan en él también.

Over the past few weeks, we had the pleasure of delivering two TOEFL ITP Teacher Workshops with educators from across Mexico: on June 18 in Mexico City, with university instructors from Altamira, Tamaulipas, and Durango, and on June 26 in Cuernavaca, with teachers working with children, teenagers, and adults.

Designed by and implemented by an officially trained professional at the Institute of International Education (Institute Of International Education (IIE)), LAC, these hands-on workshops connected TOEFL ITP assessment with classroom practice and explored how assessment data can inform teaching and curriculum decisions.

Across the sessions, key conversations emerged around curriculum alignment, learning objectives, proficiency expectations, and the challenge of communicating the value of English when it is not always given the place it deserves within educational systems.

Thank you to all participants for your engagement, reflections, and commitment to strengthening English language education in your communities.

Las 22 nuevas personas becarias de Odyssey cursarán estudios en universidades de diversos países, entre ellos Bangladesh, Chad, Kenia, México y Tailandia, a partir del ciclo académico 2026-2027.

Creada para apoyar a estudiantes altamente motivados que han sido desplazados de sus hogares en distintas partes del mundo, la Beca Odyssey cubre colegiaturas, alojamiento y gastos de manutención mientras las personas beneficiarias obtienen títulos de licenciatura y posgrado en universidades de sus países de asilo.

Este año se cumplen cinco años desde la creación del programa. Queremos expresar nuestro agradecimiento a las personas integrantes del Comité de Selección y a quienes, mediante sus donativos, han contribuido a ampliar y sostener el apoyo a este programa visionario.

The 22 new Odyssey Scholars will study at universities across several countries, including Bangladesh, Chad, Kenya, Mexico, and Thailand, starting in the 2026-27 academic year.

Created to assist highly motivated students uprooted by displacement around the globe, the Odyssey Scholarship covers tuition, housing, and living expenses as recipients earn their undergraduate and graduate degrees at universities in their country of asylum.

This year marks five years since the program’s founding. We'd like to thank our Selection Committee members and donors who've scaled up and sustained support for this visionary program.

We delivered our TOEFL ITP Teacher Workshop on April 17, this time with a group of coordinators from the Foreign and Native Languages (LEyM) department, English language facilitators, and other academic leaders from Tecnológico Nacional de México (TecNM) campuses in Boca del Río, Cuautitlán Izcalli, Guanajuato, Huixquilucan, La Chontalpa, La Piedad, Mexico City, Puebla, Saltillo, San Martín Texmelucan, Tlatlauquitepec, and Zongolica.

The range of teaching contexts represented made the exchange especially rich, with participants bringing diverse perspectives into the conversation.

This 8-hour, hands-on workshop—designed by and implemented by an officially trained professional at the Institute of International Education (IIE), LAC—focused on connecting ITP assessment with everyday classroom practice through strategies grounded in linguistic principles. Participants explored test design, reflected on how assessed skills relate to academic success, and exchanged ideas to better support their students.

Thank you to everyone for such an engaged and thoughtful session. We look forward to continuing these conversations with educators across the country.
