This is a bittersweet post.

First, the bitter: as of the end of 2025, The Crossroads Rotary Club (CRX) is no more. There will be a retrospective post in the future, to look back on its 6+ years and all it did, but this is not that post.

Now for the sweet! The legacy of Crossroads continues! This past week, three founding Crossroads members (including the first two presidents, Sloane & Geoff Schmidt) have been delivering food bags to food-insecure farm workers near Manzanillo, Mexico in concert with the Manzanillo Migrant Mission (MMM), which CRX has supported for years. This support included presenting a check to MMM for$5,000. This support came from donors including the Kingston-NK Rotary Club.

Also, Max got to visit some of the children!

Yesterday Crossroads showed up at Western Red Brewing to join with some other community folks to help stuff hundreds of stockings for local foster kids.

Member Monday is back!

Rae Baldwin is a mother, scientist, entrepreneur and philanthropist. Also, though a 5th generation Hawaiian, she now makes her home here in Kitsap County!

After studying Chemistry and Biology at the University of the Pacific, she got her PhD from USLA, leading to a career focused on cancer research and treatment. More recently, she opened Ty’s Wine and Brew on Viking Ave which offers a great gathering place for the community and serves to support local and environmental charities. Ty’s has even hosted some Crossroads Rotary events!

Rae has lived a life of service, since learning about service and volunteering from her parents. She was involved in Scouting, Interact (Rotary for High School), volunteered for a Mental Health Helpline, Team in Training and has done numerous half marathons (and a full marathon) to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma society. She also personally hosted fundraisers to support cancer patients and cancer research. (Do you get the feeling she REALLY doesn’t like cancer?)

Since joining Crossroads, she has been active in work parties (and at times ropes her daughter in as well) and particularly enjoys the work the club does for the Blue Pots in downtown Poulsbo. She also really enjoyed this past summer’s pizza party and Installation/Outstallation party. Rae has leaned in further on her Rotary activity, serving as the club’s Secretary.

Come on out to Western Red Brewing next Wednesday, Oct 8 at 6 PM, to see our friend, and truly inspirational artist and musician, Cory Bennett, talk about art, music, community and life at our biweekly Kitsap Crossroads Rotary meeting. Open to the public. Hope to see there!

Our featured speaker at tonight's meeting is former Oakland police officer Bradley Carpenter. He will be talking about his experience at dealing with trauma by taking to the sea on a surfboard.

The meeting starts at 6pm at Western Red Brewing.

Here's a fun twist; today's featured speaker is also the guest host for Crossroads' general meeting tonight!

Emily Froula is one of the co-presidents of Kingston-NK Rotary. In addition to ringing the gong for the meeting, she will be sharing a presentation on "Travel that Transforms: How to make your travel more meaningful"

Come to Western Red Brewing at 6pm to benefit from her insight!

At yesterday's Fireside social event, Crossroads members gathered to eat some amazing pizza, enjoy some great fellowship AND we even inducted a new member! Welcome to the club, Brandon, and thank you for your expert pizzaiola efforts!

There was also a tour of the orchard and some quality animals to be enjoyed.

Crossroads showed up at Port Gamble Forest Heritage Park yesterday, in a joint effort with Kingston-NK Rotary and even a bonus non-Rotarian!

Happy to report that the Bluff Trail is much more passable and user-friendly than when we started!

Yesterday Crossroads celebrated six years of Service Above Self. Outgoing president Robert Morgan honored Rae Baldwin as Rotarian of the Year.
District Governor Tony Camoroda gave a talk and helped indict the new board, as well as kicking off the passing of the mallet through all the presidents.
New President Vin Chawla spoke about his vision for the club, the we were treated to a toast from charter member Karen Wilson.

Today, we've got a work party at Port Gamble Forest!
