It’s a scorcher, and many kids stayed home from school today, but the library still saw some action. We had sweat running down our backs.

Thank you to El Berryman and Jon Cordero for their help with our Mobil library this week, while Debra Blake enjoys some well earned vacation. It was a crazy swarm of kids in the morning and a quieter afternoon.

Monday was our mobile library and today was our distribution day. Thank you to Laura Ramirez and El Berryman for donations and coming along to supervise!

The 2026-27 mobile library kicked back into gear yesterday. The kids were excited we were back.

We received a generous donation in memory of Bob Ross, which we used to purchase school uniforms today. Bob and his partner, Kathy Bax, have worked along side us for years.
Larger organizations provide uniforms to most kids, but we don’t have those resources. We check in at the start of the school year to see who is in need of uniforms and backpacks.

We finally made it to Libro Fest! What a fantastic program: you can exchange books in English and Spanish for Libro Fest ‘peso’ coupons, which can then be used to purchase other books. We started with a full box plus a bag of books to donate, and went home with a crate full of kids’ books for the library. The books we exchanged were donated: either too adult for kids or ones we had multiple copies of. Now to get out the packing tape to reinforce the bindings and to make pockets for the sign out cards.
The book I am most excited about how to raise pigs! Many families have begun raising pigs to sell lately, and I am curious as to which kids will take an interest.
Our mobile library resumes this Monday!
