We ended up taking in these sweet little puppies but it is with a heavy, bittersweet heart that I am posting this...they have both since passed.
Luke and Lea were abandoned, and traumatized, and we believe that the little girl was even used for a ritual judging by the burns on her back. Sadly black dogs (and cats) are targets of cultural superstitions around these parts, and we've been told that the females are even bigger targets.
They were found by a lovely family who quickly dropped them off at our location. They were happy but also exhausted. Lea, who may have had the most trauma, was also very protective of her brother Luke. Once they settled in, however, she quickly started deteriorating.
We took her to the local vet who basically eluded to the fact that there was not much that could be done to reverse the decline of her health. They concluded that both dogs had been exposed to the canine parvovirus and it was clear that they were not going to make it. They were too young for some of the medications and they had not been exposed enough or at all to the incredible health benefits of a mother's milk.
Both Lea, and shortly after Luke, spent the last few days of their short lives surrounded by new furry friends, cozy blankets, stuffed toys, and lots and lots of love. Both puppies took their last breath while receiving a human's touch, and that is truly our ultimate goal here at the sanctuary: providing a safe, healthy, and loving furrever home for however these precious souls are meant to be here with us.
We continue to take in more rescues where aligned and are incredibly grateful for your support. Please continue to like and share our page, as well as visit our link in the bio for donation links.
