On this day…
16 April, we remember the Battle of Culloden—now 280 years on.
Fought on the windswept moor near Inverness in 1746, Culloden marked the end of the Jacobite Rising and the last pitched battle on British soil. In less than an hour, over 1,500 men lost their lives, most of them Highlanders.
Today, the battlefield stands as a place of quiet reflection, where visitors walk among the clan markers and mass graves that honour those who fell. It is a solemn reminder of the cost of conflict—and of the lives, names, and stories carried by each stone.
Beyond the history books, Culloden remains a powerful symbol of resilience, identity, and the enduring spirit of the Highlands.
In the years that followed, traditions were suppressed, clans were scattered, and a way of life was challenged. And yet—across generations and across the world—that spirit was never lost.
Here in Mexico, more than 130 years after the founding of our Society, we honour not only those who fell, but the legacy they carried. A legacy that lives on in our traditions, our gatherings, and in each of us who carries Scotland in the heart.
Let friendship and honour unite.
