Meet Suzanne Murdock, a volunteer who works magic in the optical lab (where eyeglasses are dispensed), something she has been doing since 2004. We checked in with her through this video toward the beginning if the clinic and then on the last day when she had this to say ...

UPDATE: in Suzanne's words ... "Had an awesome week! We enriched the lives of so many people through surgery and eyeglasses. Our optical team rocked. Thank you so much Salli Orozco Becky, Laurie, Renata and Barb. We couldn't have achieved this kevel of success without you!"

Our wonderful doctors had the honor of making a huge difference in people's lives this week ... one patient, a 34 year old carpenter was there the final day for a post op check. He lives alone but has been grateful for his neighbors ... especially after he went blind, they have brought him care.

Just think, 34 years old and completely blind due to a condition where help is available.

And it didn't just hapoen. He woke up one day and one of his eyes felt weak. The light started to disappear. The following month the second eye followed and everything went black. He thought his days as a carpenter were over.

He was nervous when he arrived, no, more than nervous, he said he was scared. He added it was hard to stay perfectly still during the surgery. Even in the operating room, when the medical team was finished, he knew he was going to be able to see.

He says he wants to thank God and the good people here at the clinic... next he wants to return to work, and adding with a huge ear to ear grin, watch the World Series on the TV.

Past RI Director Suzi Howe has been a tireless supporter of the Guerrero Clinic for over 25 years. She beams as she walks the hallways checking on patients and volunteers. We checked in with Suzi the last day of the clinic ... hear her story in her words.

Meet Angeleca Almeida. It was 3 months ago when her vision started to fail. By the time she came to the clinic, she was struggling. When she would try to clean she could not see to do a good job ... "I would even leave trash," she said, "because I couldn't see it."

She also said she had to walk so carefully because she would trip and fall. It was awful. She was depressed because at 36 years old, she thought she had lost her sight forever.

Then she heard about the clinic and heard such good things, that the doctors and care was good. Going to another city for the surgery wasn't an option because of the cost.

I want for more people to know about this clonic as and that the government helps people, there are groups like Rotary that help people.

When they took off her bandages she said she wanted to cry. She couldn't believe the colors, the sky, the faces, she could see to walk. Here life is now much, much better and her radiant smile has returned.

Featured here is someone we would be lost without. Mirna Cervantes has served as a patient coordinator for over 25 years ... I think she helps keep all of us organized.
