Chelem Puerto Apoyo Escolar is a local community group working to provide support to the school age children of Chelem Puerto. Although education is free in Mexico, often times families in the community cannot afford to purchase the required uniforms, books, scho

ol supplies, transportation and testing fees to attend school. For the poorest of families, these costs are impossible and many children drop out at the 4th grade level in elementary school. The key to Chelem Puerto Apoyo Escolar program are the Sponsors that provide annual sponsorships that allows the program to make the purchase of school supplies/uniforms or to pay the book and testing fees at the higher grade levels. The Apoyo program matches a Sponsor to a family/child in need. We identify families that are committed to support the education of their children. The commitment of the family and the student in their education is reflected in their school grades. The cost of an annual sponsorships varies based upon grade levels:

• $2,400 MXP/~$110.00 USD for grade 4-6
• $3,100 MXP/~$155.00 USD for grade 7-9
• $4,200 MXP/~$210.00 US for grades 10-12

The sponsorship funds are used to purchase:
• A back pack;
• School supplies;
• Uniforms (shirts/polos, skirts/pants, and a pair of shoes);
• For the higher grades, funds are used for the testing fees and the purchase of school books. The program has a continuing need for new sponsors, if you are interested in supporting the program as sponsor, we ask that you use this link:

📚 Un mensaje importante de Apoyo Escolar

Ese día estaremos entregando los uniformes escolares y tomando las fotografías de nuestros estudiantes. ¡Esperamos verlos a todos allí!

Este año, debido a la falta de patrocinadores y al número de estudiantes que actualmente no cuentan con un patrocinador, nuestro programa Apoyo Escolar enfrenta algunas limitaciones.

Lamentablemente, este año no podremos proporcionar zapatos a todos nuestros estudiantes. También podremos proporcionar útiles escolares —como papel, cuadernos, lápices, plumas y otros materiales— únicamente a los estudiantes de secundaria.

Sin embargo, queremos destacar lo que sí podremos ofrecer este año:

👕 Todos nuestros estudiantes recibirán su uniforme escolar.
✏️ Los estudiantes de secundaria recibirán útiles escolares.
📚 Los estudiantes de preparatoria recibirán apoyo para el pago de sus libros y exámenes.

Seguimos trabajando activamente para encontrar nuevos patrocinadores y ampliar nuestra red de apoyo. Tenemos la esperanza de que el próximo año podamos volver a proporcionar a todos nuestros estudiantes uniformes, zapatos y útiles escolares completos.

Cada patrocinador hace una enorme diferencia en la educación y en las oportunidades de nuestros niños y jóvenes. 💙

Today Arland Hughes Dorais and Barry Humphrey had the pleasure of attending the graduation ceremony of the José Trinidad Mendez Primaria Escuela. The Apoyo program is so proud of all the excellent students of this school, and were honored to help hand out diplomas to the graduates. Seeing the future shine so brightly on the faces of the children of Chelem makes us so excited to see them succeed and go on to the next step in their education.

We had a very successful day measuring the students in our Chelem Apoyo Program for the uniforms necessary for the 2020/2027 school year. A portion of the money sent by our sponsors pays for the uniforms for their sponsored students, along with backpacks, school supplies, books and testing fees.
A huge thank you to Hank's Place Sports Bar & Grill for allowing us to use their air conditioned room for the comfort of students and their families during measurements. We are so grateful for their continued support of our program.
