This authoritative voice is perpetuated by its Legionnaires’ sense of obligation to community, state and nation driving an honest advocacy for veterans in Washington. The Legion stands behind the issues most important to the veteran community, backed by resolutions passed by volunteer leadership. The American Legion’s success depends entirely on active membership, participation, and volunteerism.
The organization belongs to the people it serves and the communities in which it thrives. As an American Legion Post, we serve local veterans and our lakeside community. Each month, we serve veterans with assistance to documents for Veteran Affairs, immigration issues, and so much more. Our Legion Post has sole responsibility for the maintenance of the Expat section of the Chapala Cemetery where many veterans are buried. We also have a great rapport with other Expat Organizations including military organizations here at lakeside that meet together bi-monthly. Our 3 organizations - the The American Legion, Auxiliary and the Sons of the American Legion - are involved in various activities to support local charities and our own programs such as: Veterans Emergency Relief Fund, Casas en Crisis, Love in Action Orphanage, DIF Chapala reading glasses donation program, Crread Zona 1 AC Suc Chapala (Halfway House). We are also involved with the city street sweepers of Chapala providing them with safety vests and gloves. And, every Christmas holiday, our Toys for Tots drive puts smiles on the faces of local children who might otherwise go without. We are the go-to place in Chapala for information pertaining to the lakeside community and veterans services.
