Capital FM Malawi writes: Condom prices could rise globally as supply chain disruptions linked to the Iran war continue to affect production, the world’s largest manufacturer, Karex, has warned.

Karex CEO Goh Miah Kiat says the company may increase prices by between 20 and 30 percent, citing rising costs of raw materials, manufacturing and shipping.

The disruptions, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz, have affected the supply of key materials and delayed deliveries, with some shipments yet to reach their destinations despite high demand.

Karex, which produces over five billion condoms annually and supplies more than 130 countries, says it may have no option but to pass on the increased costs to consumers, although it currently has enough stock to last a few months.

At the heart of the SARSYC Conference is the International Cultural Night (INCUNI), a vibrant celebration of the region’s rich diversity.

This special event offers participants a platform to showcase their cultural heritage, traditions, and customs, creating space for learning, appreciation, and connection.

More than just a celebration, the Cultural Night strengthens unity and inclusivity by bringing together people from different backgrounds to share experiences and embrace one another’s identities.

Did you know…?

In 2022, Saywhat launched its first Research Indaba in Malawi, creating space for research professionals to share ideas, raise their voices, and engage in meaningful conversations.

Here is our Executive Director (L), Mr. Jimmy Wilford, sharing a light moment with Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kaunda (C), just outside the Research Indaba breakout room.

This year, all roads lead to Windhoek, where great thinkers and changemakers will not simply gather, but boldly challenge norms, engage stakeholders and high-level delegates, and shape regional policies through research that speaks, data that moves, and evidence that demands action.

📢 Call for Abstracts

Building on over a decade of youth-led advocacy, the Southern African Regional Students and Youth Consortium (SARSYC) has evolved from a dialogue platform into a powerful regional movement shaping health and education outcomes across Southern Africa.

As part of this journey, the Regional Research Indaba III provides a platform for young researchers to contribute evidence that informs policy, strengthens advocacy, and drives sustainable, locally-led solutions in a rapidly changing development landscape.

Under the theme “Evidence for action: Youth-led research shaping policy and practice,” young people are invited to submit research that speaks to real challenges and opportunities across the region.

Whether it is advancing education equity, addressing health challenges, or exploring digital and mental wellbeing, your research can help shape the conversations and decisions that impact communities.
