On 4th June 2026, Action Hope Malawi participated in the Assistive Technologies for a Dignified Life for Persons with Disabilities Symposium organized by the University of Malawi's Disability Rights Clinic.

The symposium brought together key stakeholders including FEDOMA, MACRA, MACODA, youth representatives, and other disability rights advocates to discuss access to assistive technologies in Malawi.

Among the key issues highlighted was that only about 4.5% of persons with disabilities in Malawi currently have access to assistive technologies, leaving the vast majority without the support they need to live independently and with dignity.

Participants welcomed the recent national budget, which introduced a tax waiver on the importation of assistive technologies, a significant step towards improving accessibility. The symposium also recommended that access to assistive technologies be formally recognized as a right within the Disability Act and emphasized the need for stronger advocacy for government investment in the local manufacturing of assistive technologies in Malawi.

Action Hope Malawi remains committed to promoting inclusion, accessibility, and the rights of persons with disabilities so that no one is left behind.

Mob justice is NOT justice.

Every person has the right to a fair hearing before the law. Taking the law into our own hands only spreads violence, destroys families, and weakens our communities.

As Malawians, we must promote peace, unity, and respect for human rights. Let us reject violence and allow the justice system to do its work.

Together, we can build a safer and more peaceful Malawi where justice is guided by the law — not by anger or fear.

🚫 Say NO to mob justice
⚖️ Say YES to the rule of law
