Creative Centre for Community Mobilisation (CRECCOM)

CRECCOM is a local Malawian Non – Governmental Organization (NGO) based which has over 20 years of experience in social empowerment and community mobilization on a variety of social issues including; improving access and quality to education; child labour, HIV and AIDS prevention and mitigation as well as addressing issues of Gender Equality. The NGO was registered with the Government of Malawi under the Trustees Incorporation Act 5:03 on 4th April 1999. The NGO is also registered with the Council of Non-Governmental Organizations of Malawi (CONGOMA) as well as the NGO Board of Malawi.

𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽𝘀 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴

Community efforts to keep children in school are yielding encouraging results in Mulanje District. During recent Learning Centre Management Committee (LCMC) review meetings, Nakamba and Mitawa II Community-Based Education (CBE) Centres reported the successful transition of 18 learners into formal primary schools.

The review also highlighted strong community ownership, with traditional leaders introducing by-laws and village-level committees to address absenteeism and dropout. In Traditional Authority Ndanga, the by-laws have been formally endorsed to strengthen parental responsibility for children's education.

Despite challenges such as early marriage and teenage pregnancy, communities remain committed to supporting learners, particularly girls, to stay in school.

The Girls Get Equal (GGE) 2.0 project in Malawi is implemented by a consortium consisting of Plan International Malawi, the Creative Centre for Community Mobilisation (CRECCOM), and Point of Progress (POP), with support from the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad)

𝗡𝗘𝗦𝗧 𝗠𝗮𝗹𝗮𝘄𝗶 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻

CRECCOM is today hosting the dissemination of the NEST Malawi research report, Learning What Matters in Malawi: From Policy to Holistic Skills Development for Secondary School Students, at Thope Lodge in Mponela.

Opening the workshop, Director of Secondary Education Ms. Ruth Samati Kambali commended the research and emphasized the importance of using evidence to strengthen Malawi’s secondary education system and better connect policy with classroom practice.

CRECCOM Executive Director Alinafe Chibwana hailed the completion of the study as an important achievement, stressing that the findings must now go beyond dissemination and contribute to policy dialogue and practical education reforms.

The research highlights gaps between Malawi’s strong policy ambitions and implementation, particularly around holistic skills development, teaching and assessment, teacher support, coordination and system feedback.

The Climate Resilient Health and Well-being for Rural Communities in Southern Malawi (CHWBRC) Project Team is conducting a five-day workshop from 27th September to 2nd October, 2026, at Sunbird Hotel in Lilongwe on the development of the Social and Behaviour Change (SBC) Strategy .

The Strategy will serve as a guiding framework to enhance the effective implementation of SBC activities under the project.

The workshop has brought together key project partners, namely the Ministry of Health and Sanitation, CRECCOM, Catholic Health Commission, and Save the Children Malawi.

The Project funded by the Green Climate Fund is being implemented in six districts, namely Ntcheu, Balaka, Machinga, Mangochi, Zomba, and Phalombe, for a period of five years, commencing in 2025 and ending in 2030.

𝗖𝗥𝗘𝗖𝗖𝗢𝗠 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗡𝗚𝗢 𝗗𝗮𝘆

CRECCOM is participating in the 2026 National NGO Day at the Bingu International Convention Centre Grounds in Lilongwe, showcasing its work across Education, Gender, Youth Development, Climate Change, Health and Social Accountability.

Guest of Honour Hon. Mary Thom Navicha, Minister of Gender, Children, Disability and Social Welfare, visited the CRECCOM pavilion and engaged the team on its Cash Plus social protection interventions and education programmes, including how these approaches support vulnerable households, livelihoods, learning and community resilience.

The pavilion was also visited by UN Resident Coordinator Rebecca Adda-Dontoh, who discussed CRECCOM’s response to the changing development financing landscape. Programmes Manager Linice Sanga highlighted CRECOMEX, CRECCOM’s social enterprise offering conference facilities, restaurant services, car hire, real estate and consultancy services as part of the organisation’s sustainability strategy.

𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗛𝗼𝗽𝗲𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗕𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮...

Success is not only measured by what we do during a project, but by what participants continue to achieve afterwards.

Hopeson Banda, a 24-year-old young farmer from Ntcheu, continues to apply the sustainable agriculture skills he gained through the Green Jobs for Adolescents and Youth (GJ4AY) Project. After the project ended earlier this year, he has continued farming maize, cabbage, tomatoes and other vegetables.

His work is also creating opportunities for others. Hopeson has now engaged another young person who was not part of the project to support him on the farm.

These photos, recently shared by Hopeson, show that the skills and opportunities gained through the project are continuing to support sustainable livelihoods beyond the project period.

The GJ4AY project was implemented by a consortium of Save the Children Malawi, CRECCOM, Emerge Livehoods, Adra Malawi, TEVETA and Mzuzu University with support from Save the Children Italy.

The Creative Centre for Community Mobilisation (CRECCOM) and the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) Management have reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing their media partnership, as discussed in a review meeting held at Chichiri Broadcasting House in Blantyre.

The meeting assessed implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding between the two organisations, established on 11 February 2025, and explored ways to better address both parties' communication needs.

Both parties agreed to continue airing the CRECCOM Corner programs on MBC television while also enhancing radio programming and expanding dissemination to digital and online platforms. Discussions also emphasized improving field documentation and program production.
