This week, we travelled to Kachinjika Village in Traditional Authority Ganya, Ntcheu, where we interacted with members of the Hope Youth Club under the Green Jobs for Adolescents and Youth Project (GJ4AY) implemented with funding from Save the Children Italia.

Through the project, CRECCOM strengthened youth-led awareness and behaviour change communication through Theatre for Development (TfD). In 2025, a total of 72 youth clubs, including Hope Youth Club, were trained in TfD, equipping them with skills to facilitate community awareness and dialogue on development issues.

As a result, 37 Theatre for Development performances were conducted across Ntcheu District, reaching 4,870 people (1,430 males and 3,440 females) with messages on social and development issues. The initiative continues to demonstrate the power of youth-led communication in promoting positive behaviour change and community development.

Who remembers Mtapwa Bridge?

At one point, crossing here was almost a โ€œfaith-based activityโ€. During the rainy season, people had to negotiate with mud, water, and luck before reaching the other side. But then something powerful happened: community action met local leadership.

Through the USAID-funded Milimo Activity, CRECCOM strengthened the capacity of local institutions to deliver meaningful development interventions using local resources while promoting self-reliance and financial independence.

Chikomwe CBO stepped up and proved that local organisations are not just for meetings; they can get real things done!

Today, even though the project ended in 2025, the bridge still stands as proof that development is not always importedโ€”sometimes, it grows from within the community itself.

And letโ€™s be honestโ€ฆ some of us are still crossing that bridge without remembering to thank the people who made it possible.

Big respect to Chikomwe CBO for showing what community ownership really looks like. Your impact continues beyond the project timeline.

CRECCOM joins the world in promoting menstrual health, dignity, and inclusion for all girls and women. Menstruation is a natural part of life and should never stop a girl from learning, participating, or achieving her dreams. Let us know the facts about menstruation, build positive attitudes that end stigma and discrimination, and take action by supporting access to menstrual hygiene products, information, and safe environments. Together, we can create communities where no girl is left behind because of her period.

Three Market Expos downโ€ฆ and our young entrepreneurs are refusing to stay โ€œsmall-scaleโ€

Through the Green Jobs for Adolescents and Youth Project, funded by Save the Children Italy, CRECCOM in partnership with Save the Children Malawi and Emerge Livelihoods successfully hosted the third Market Expo at Manjawira Trading Centre in Ntcheu District.

The Expo brought together 25 young entrepreneurs who have now graduated from business incubation to real community businesses โ€” from solar power installation services to delicious home-baked treats that were giving people serious โ€œjust one more biteโ€ problems

Sub-T/A Tsikulamowa applauded the project for creating opportunities for young people and encouraged beneficiaries to stay committed to growing their enterprises and creating opportunities for others.

One inspiring participant, Janet Matewere, a young mother caring for her child and two siblings, shared how her business is helping support her family.

โ€œLife is not easy, but my business is helping me take care of my family, and I believe this Expo will bring me even more customers,โ€ she said.

The Market Expo is part of the projectโ€™s post-incubation support aimed at strengthening market linkages and helping youth-led enterprises grow stronger roots in their communities.

Kabichi Primary School in Mulanje District recently hosted a vibrant BeFIT Open Day, bringing together parents, guardians, and community members to witness firsthand how digital learning is transforming education for their children. Community members had the opportunity to interact with the BeFIT tablets in real time and appreciate how the programme is strengthening learnersโ€™ literacy and numeracy skills in engaging and innovative ways.

The Building Education Foundations Through Innovation and Technology (BeFIT) is a government of Malawi owned and led program aimed at enhancing foundational literacy and numeracy skills among learners in standard 1 to 4 across all public primary schools in Malawi through supplemental, individualized, self-paced instruction delivered via specialized apps on android tablets.

The Open Day also created a platform for parents and the wider community to better understand and support their childrenโ€™s learning journey. Through interactive demonstrations and learner participation, the event showcased the power of technology in creating enjoyable, inclusive, and effective learning experiences that are shaping brighter futures for children.

CRECCOM is supporting the implementation of Befit Program at the school.

This week, under the Social Protection for Gender Empowerment and Resilience (SP-GEAR) Project funded by the European Union and the Government of Ireland through UNICEF, CRECCOM conducted coaching and mentorship sessions for female-led enterprises as well as Savings and Loans groups in Mzimba North, Mzimba South, and Zomba.

The sessions aimed at strengthening business management skills, promoting financial discipline, and building the confidence of women entrepreneurs to sustainably grow their businesses. This support is especially important following the provision of seed capital, as it helps ensure that beneficiaries are able to effectively invest, manage, and expand their enterprises for long-term resilience and improved livelihoods.

Picture excerpts capture moments from the mentorship and coaching activities across the three districts.
