Three years ago, Judge Banda took a chance and joined African Students For Liberty as a Local Coordinator. What began as a campus leadership opportunity grew into a remarkable journey of impact, growth and service.

From leading campus events and advancing ideas of freedom at the local level, Judge rose to serve as National Coordinator, supporting over 40 Local Coordinators across Malawi and helping shape a growing movement of young changemakers. Along the way, he has hosted impactful platforms, built valuable networks, and developed into a stronger leader, organizer and communicator.

His journey is a testament to what is possible when young people step forward to lead.

As applications for the Local Coordinator Program near the deadline, Judge Banda’s story is a reminder that this opportunity can be a launchpad for purpose, growth and impact.

Could you be next?

On 15th March, 2026 we had an exciting session under the _Freedom Flow Malawi: Empowering Women Through Menstrual Dignity and Self Reliance_ ( She Leads Initiative). Young women from Kanthete community in Mzuzu learned how to produce safe, high quality and reusable menstrual pads using locally available materials.

The session inspired them to openly be discussing about menstrual hygiene where 80% of participants claimed that their confidence has been boosted and they will share this knowledge shamelessly in their communities.

Beyond health, the session also introduced entrepreneurship opportunities, showing participants how reusable pads production can become a small income generative activity.

Maria Tonthola implemented an EcoLiberty project that aims at turning waste into wealth in collaboration with CrownUp Youth Club to facilitate hands-on training sessions.

The implementation took place at IDA Chilembwe Community Technical College and DAPP Mikolongwe Vocational School in Chiladzulu District.

The project focused on equipping young women with practical skills to transform waste materials such as cardboard and plastics into reusable and income-generating products, including ecobricks, decorative flowers, baskets, shoe racks, and other home décor items.

EcoLiberty Clubs at both institutions have been established to ensure that the project is sustainable. In case you want to partner or render any support reachout to [email protected]
