Justice Delayed, Youth Betrayed: Unexecuted Court Judgment Haunts Youth Empowerment Movement

A court judgment delivered in 2017 remains unexecuted to this day, leaving a youth-led organization Act4Change youth organization in disarray and raising urgent questions about legal accountability in Malawi’s justice system.

đź’¸ Funds for Youth Development Vanished

The case centered around misappropriated funds earmarked for a high-profile youth fundraising concert, which was meant to empower young people through debate programs and radio platforms like Chanco Radio. The organization—founded by local youth leader Daniel phiri—had already gained credibility by hosting successful local music fundraising events and receiving corporate backing.

In anticipation of scaling up efforts, the team planned a major concert featuring international artists. Multiple corporate sponsors pledged funding, and cash—reportedly including a $2,000 artist fee of which part payment of 1400 dollars—was entrusted to Mr. Limbani Banda, then a member of the Zembani Music Band. A musician-led organizing committee facilitated transactions.

But when the time came to account for funds, Mr. Limbani Banda failed to produce any receipts, artist contracts, or evidence of payment. Corporate sponsors demanded transparency, and the matter was escalated to court.

Court Ruled in Favor of Youth, but No Action Followed

Represented by prominent lawyer Jai Banda, the youth organization successfully obtained a court judgment in 2017 confirming fund misappropriation. However, despite legal victory, no ex*****on of the judgment has occurred to date. Communication from Mr. Banda has since ceased.

“We trusted the legal system. We trusted the names behind it. But seven years later, we are still waiting,” said Daniel phiri, the organization’s founder.

🤝 The organization is urging civic leaders, legal watchdogs, media platforms, and human rights advocates to revisit the case and demand accountability from all involved parties.

> “This is not just about lost money—it’s about lost trust, lost momentum, and lost youth voices.
