📢 CHAFO PUBLIC HEALTH INTERNS SUPPORT POLIO VACCINATION CAMPAIGN PREPARATIONS 💉🧒🏾

10 August 2026 | Nsanje District

CHAFO Public Health Interns today participated in a preparatory meeting with various health departments ahead of the upcoming Polio Vaccination Campaign, scheduled to take place from 11–14 August 2026.

The meeting brought together representatives from different departments, including Public Health and Nutrition, to strengthen planning, coordination and collaboration for the successful implementation of the campaign.

Key discussions focused on:
✅ Campaign planning and preparedness
✅ Coordination among participating departments
✅ Clarification of roles and responsibilities
✅ Strategies to ensure effective delivery of polio vaccination services to eligible children
✅ Strengthening community engagement and mobilization

Through their participation, CHAFO Public Health Interns continue to gain valuable practical experience in immunization programmes, public health planning, teamwork and community health interventions.

CHAFO Public Health Interns at Nsanje District Hospital

Today's Highlights | 4 August 2026

Today, CHAFO Public Health Interns continued supporting the delivery of essential maternal and child health services at Nsanje District Hospital.

The team participated in health education sessions for pregnant women, providing information on birth preparedness, danger signs during pregnancy, and the importance of maintaining good hygiene throughout pregnancy to promote the health and safety of both mother and baby.

In addition, the interns continued supporting various clinical services, including malaria testing, where they gained practical experience in screening patients under the supervision of healthcare professionals.

Through these hands-on learning opportunities, our interns are strengthening their public health knowledge while contributing to quality healthcare service delivery in the district.

CHAFO remains committed to developing the next generation of competent public health professionals through practical field experience.

*Breastfeeding benefits include:*

🔹 Provides all the nutrients a baby needs for the first 6 months.
🔹 Provides antibodies that protect the child against many illnesses like diarrhoea and pneumonia.
🔹 Reduces the risk of obesity and chronic diseases in children.
🔹 Reduces the risk of disease for the mother, including breast and ovarian cancer.

💡 Additionally, breastfed children perform better on intelligence tests.

🌍 Still, only 48% of babies under 6 months are exclusively breastfed.

*WHO recommends:*

✔ Start breastfeeding within the first hour after birth.
✔ Exclusively breastfeed for 6 months.
✔ Continue breastfeeding with complementary foods up to 2 years or beyond.

Empowering Future Public Health Professionals in Action!

Today, 30 July 2026, CHAFO Public Health Interns continued supporting the delivery of Maternal and Child Health (MCH) services at the Under-Five Clinic under the Nsanje District Health Office (Nsanje DHO).

Watch the video clips as our interns, Audeta Roma, Enice Tapela and George Mkupe, take turns facilitating interactive health education sessions for mothers on the different types of childhood vaccines, their importance, and the recommended vaccination schedules. Using participatory approaches, they encouraged discussion, answered questions, and promoted informed decision-making to improve child health outcomes.

Together, we are strengthening healthcare service delivery while building the next generation of public health professionals.

📍PUBLIC HEALTH INTERNSHIP UPDATE |

Nsanje District Health Office:

Today, Tuesday 28 July 2026, our interns continued supporting the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) by weighing children, registering them, and administering routine childhood vaccines. These essential activities help monitor children's growth, maintain accurate immunization records, and ensure that every eligible child receives life-saving vaccines to protect them against vaccine-preventable diseases.

As part of their learning experience, they also had the privilege of meeting the District Environmental Health Officer (DEHO), who warmly welcomed them to an open & interactive discussion about internship experiences.

We appreciate the continued support and guidance from the Nsanje District Health Office as our interns gain practical experience while contributing to improved child health services in the district.

PUBLIC HEALTH INTERNSHIP IN ACTION | 27 July 2026

Our Public Health Interns, currently attached to the Nsanje District Health Office (DHO) through Chididi Health for All Foundation (CHAFO), continue to gain valuable hands-on experience while supporting the delivery of essential health services.

Today's highlights included:
✅ Registering children in the immunization register.
✅ Weighing children to monitor their growth and nutritional status.
✅ Supporting the administration of routine childhood vaccines under supervision.
✅ Learning about the vaccine cold chain and its critical role in maintaining vaccines at the recommended temperatures to ensure they remain safe, potent, and effective.

Through this internship programme, our interns are strengthening their practical public health skills while contributing to improved maternal and child health services in Nsanje District.

We appreciate the continued mentorship and support from the Nsanje District Health Office and all health workers who are helping shape the next generation of public health professionals.
