STATE OF DISASTER AND TIPHEDZANE FARM.
"Our first farming phase was more about learning than high yields production. We had great lessons and we hope to improve tremendously for the second phase farming. Our women managed to share Red beans they have harvested. We hope to harvest more as we start a second phase of planting on 1st November, 2025".

STATE OF DISASTER
Malawi President has declared a state of diaster for 11 districts in Malawi due to prolonged dry spells. Our district, Nsanje is one of the districts listed on the declaration. Hunger situation has already worsen now, and as usual women, elderly persons, persons with disabilities, and children are the most affected population. Malnutrition for children will likely be a major effect. Likewise pregnant mothers and lactating women will as well be affected negatively.

LEAN SEASON IN MALAWI
Lean season begins in October to March in Malawi. This is time the prices of food are very high. Worse still, food itself in not available. Nsanje district is characterized by high temperatures and as a result farmers harvest very little. This period we normally experience increased cases of malnutrition among the children due to the lack of food and nutritious food in particular. For Bangula and surrounding villages, for the past two years, Dr Lisa Miller Feeding Centre has been the help of the villages providing a highly nutritious meal every week. We pray that Dr Lisa Miller be able to source more funds for the continuity of the feeding program in this time of critical need.

BYE BUCKET IRRIGATION, ENTER GASOLINE PUMP IRRIGATION
It is quite important for partners to look for holistic ways of addressing education and nutrition needs of the poverty stricken community. Funding an irrigation package like this one, with a start up package for oil and gas can go along way in empowering poor communities to grow their own food in groups and address their income generating issues. In this way, they will be able to pay school fees and provide nutritious food to their children. Let's address the root cause of nutrition and lack of school fees. We would like to urge all partners to support such community group initiatives to grow their own food. We thank a well-wisher for providing this irrigation equipment to Tiphedzane Community Farm in Nsanje, Malawi. Let's all emulate and support one community group to grow their own food.

SMALL SCALE IRRIGATION FARMING
We are looking forward for more support to such community farms. Ending hunger at family level has positive ripple effect on the entire family ranging from nutrition, education, income level, health and GBV. Let's all support such initiatives that has great impact at family, community, and national level. Constructing a standard well, buying farm tools and inputs, and procurement of Gasoline irrigation equipment totals $3000. With $3000 a community farm supporting 50 households will be established and enable the houses have continuous harvests of
maize, beans, tomatoes,and vegetables.

BUCKET IRRIGATION : THE STORY OF HARD WORKING WOMEN
These women are the core of the Tiphedzane Community Farm Project. While many men detest such tasks, these women day in, day out water the maize crops and beans crops. The plants are very promising. They use what is commonly called bucket irrigation, using buckets to draw water from a nearby well to irrigate these crops. A well wisher helped us with funds to construct the well. The farm and it's volunteers will sing a new song now. Starting next week, they will start using Gasoline water pump, making irrigation task more easy. While we do not have proper canals, they will use the Gasoline pump to draw water within the farm premises. We would like to thank the well wisher who has donated the irrigation equipment. Visibly we see ending hunger for 50 households in the first harvest, and more households will be reached in the next growing season.
