Through Women Voice for Peace project, Women Forums in Nkhotakota district have successfully mediated 125 conflict cases from October 2024.
These cases include more than 50 family-related disputes, many of which involved gender-based violence (GBV).

Through their community based mediation efforts, these women have played a critical role in promoting social cohesion, restoring relationships, and preventing the escalation of conflicts.

In response to the rising incidence of family disputes and violence, they emerged as advocates for peace by actively engaging local media platforms to amplify messages on peaceful coexistence within families and communities. Through radio discussions and awareness programs, they challenged harmful norms that perpetuate violence while promoting dialogue, mutual respect, and non-violent conflict resolution measures.

The women are utilising these media platforms to increase public awareness of available support services for GBV survivors and vulnerable families, encouraging timely reporting and access to assistance. As a result, community members are increasingly informed about their rights, support mechanisms, and the importance of fostering peaceful and violence-free environments.

Together for a

As we are commemorating International Menstrual Hygiene Day, we also celebrate the progress Umunthu Plus made towards ensuring that every girl can manage her menstruation with dignity, safety, and confidence.

Through menstrual health interventions implemented in the previous year, 686 reusable sanitary pads were successfully produced and distributed to 611 adolescent girls in primary schools. This initiative contributed to enhancing safety and dignity while reducing school absenteeism among girls.
