Community Sensitisation Meeting with Village Development Committees

As part of implementing the Tikweze Programme, Umunthu Plus, together with Malawi Community Hubs and ECOSID, held community sensitisation meetings with Village Development Committee (VDC) members and community members in Traditional Authorities Mwadzama and Malengachanzi.

The aim was to introduce the Tikweze Programme to communities and explain its objectives, key interventions and implementation approach, while promoting community participation, ownership, and support throughout the project implementation period.

The sensitisation meetings focus on the key project interventions to be implemented in the communities, the roles and responsibilities of VDC members in supporting project implementation and community mobilisation, and mechanisms for communication and coordination between the project team, VDCs, and community members.

The programme is being implemented in Kanyangale and Mvalamanja VDCs in Mwadzama, and Kaungulu and Sasani 2 VDCs in Malengachanzi.

Umunthu Plus, together with its consortium partners, remains committed to working with communities and local structures to support meaningful participation and successful implementation of the Tikweze Programme.

Day 2: Organizational Policy Training Underway

We started the day with a recap of yesterday's session on Safeguarding and the Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA), ensuring that safety, accountability, and confidentiality remain at the core of everything we do.

Today, our focus shifts to human resource policies, where we are reviewing key guidelines on people management, to clearly grasp standards of acceptable behaviour to foster a safe, fair, and professional work environment.

Today, we have started a three-day orientation session on organisational policies to our staff.

The sessions will cover areas of Prevention of Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment (PSEAH), Safeguarding, Human Resources, Finance & Procurement.

We aim to strengthen staff knowledge, promote accountability, and ensure that our work is guided by organisational standards.

This orientation has been organised under the Shifting the Power Programme, implemented by Tilitonse Foundation in partnership with Comic Relief and the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office

When we invest in women and girls, we create opportunities for them to rebuild their lives, strengthen their independence, and shape a better future.

This is reflected in the journey of a young woman from Ntchisi who received support in 2021 through the Spotlight Initiative, implemented by UN Women Malawi in partnership with Umunthu Plus -for humanity . This support contributed to her journey towards economic empowerment.

Today, we are pleased to see her receive encouragement from Nigerian artist who is also Global Ambassador for Gender Based Violence against Women and Girls, Tiwa Savage , who took time to have a conversation with her and hear about her journey.

We are pleased to announce that the Community Climate Health Resilience Project has been approved by the Nkhotakota District Executive Committee.

The project will be implemented in T/As Kafuzira, Kanyenda and Malengachanzi, with the goal of strengthening community health systems to effectively respond to climate induced health risks, particularly extreme heat.

Funded by the Sanofi Foundation, the project will run from 2026 to 2028.
