Day 2: Organisational Work Plan & Budget Review Workshop

“If you don't know where you are going, you will probably end up somewhere else.” Laurence J. Peter

With this in mind, day 2 of the workshop is focused on taking a clear look at where we are, where we want to go, and what we need to do to get there.

We started with a recap of yesterday’s session before reviewing our organisational work plan and budget for the remaining months of 2026.

The session is helping us prioritise, align our plans and clearly define what will be implement in the months ahead.

We thank Tilitonse Foundation , Comic Relief and Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office for their support

Happy International Youth Day

Under this year’s theme, Different Contexts, Common Aspirations, we celebrate the diverse experiences, ideas and aspirations of young people across the world.

We also spotlight the Youth Leaders and Youth Peers driving change under Going Beyond Project, implemented in partnership with Digital Opportunity Trust and the Mastercard Foundation.

Here’s to celebrating youth voices, amplifying their potential and creating opportunities for them.

For communities living close to game reserve, competition over land and natural resources can affect livelihoods and create conflicts between communities and authorities managing protected areas.

Kavulamanja Village in Traditional Authority Kanyenda, with more than 50 families, shares a boundary with Nkhotakota Game Reserve. For years the community has experienced crop damage, particularly from wild pigs entering the village from the reserve. These incidents have sometimes created frustration and tensions between community members and game reserve authorities.

However, wildlife is not the only source of conflict. Encroachment into the game reserve and illegal mining are also putting pressure on the protected area, contributing to resource related disputes and increasing tensions between communities and authorities.

To address these challenges, an orientation meeting was held to help community members better understand the operations of the game reserve, the importance of protecting the area, and safe ways of responding to wildlife related incidents. Community members openly shared their concerns and discussed practical ways of preventing and managing conflicts.

Community members were encouraged to report wildlife incidents to the African Parks through the toll-free number 0886 289 595, rather than killing animals or taking actions that could escalate the situation.

Communities pledged to strengthen early reporting and communication with relevant authorities whenever conflicts or illegal activities arise, raise awareness on protecting the game reserve and discouraging encroachment and illegal mining.

The meeting was organised under the Women Voice for Peace Project, funded by the Women's Peace & Humanitarian Fund through UN Women

Just over three weeks ago, we shared the story of Eliza Mjepezi of Malasa 3 Village, T/A Malengachanzi whose vegetable garden was transforming her family's livelihood.

Today, we are delighted to see how quickly her hard work has continued to bear fruit.
During a recent monitoring visit, we found that the bean seed she purchased using income from her vegetable sales has now matured and she is already selling her harvest.

Her business has also expanded. She sells tomatoes, onions, and groundnut flour alongside the vegetables. As the quality and quantity of her vegetables has grown other local vegetable vendors now buy fresh vegetables from her to resell.

“Entrepreneurship is neither a science nor an art. It is a practice.”— Peter Drucker

Every successful business begins with an idea but it grows through knowledge, mentorship and access to opportunities. By creating spaces where young people can learn from experts and connect with key institutions, we are helping nurture the next generation of entrepreneurs.

Youth Leaders under the Going Beyond project organized a business development mentorship session for their fellow young people.

The session had experts from Malawi Regulatory Authority (MRA) and Malawi Enterprise Development Fund(MEDF).

These experts provided practical guidance on business registration, regulatory compliance and tax.

Adding on that, information on available loans at MEDF and the steps young entrepreneurs can take to access them was shared.

Going Beyond project is implemented in partnership with Digital Opportunity Trust and Mastercard Foundation
