A LOVENESS CHILIKO PHIRI'S INITIATIVE
Background
-Achieving quality education still seems to be a challenge in most remote areas of Malawi especially in Community Day Secondary Schools. As an indidual, I appriciate the efforts made by both government and non- governmental institutions which support education in Malawi through various means. However, despite these efforts, rural schools across Malawi especially CDSS are still far much behind in achieving quality education. It has come to my attention that:
a. Firstly, most students do not have exercise books to use for different subjects. Junior classes are expected to have 13/14 exercise books while senior classes are expected to have a maximum of 11 exercise books. However most students have maybe 4 A5 books which they use for up to 4 subjects sometimes, meaning they have to write Geography, Maths, English and Biology in the same book. I mean how on earth is this possible? How do we achieve quality education with this? Yes books are everywhere in government schools, but how many students in CDSS rural areas can be able to read a book and understand on their own? Very few isn't? Thus we need to join efforts as a country, help our kids across the nation by donating either exercise books or any amount of money that we can afford so that we buy these exercise books.
Secondly, let's talk about the underprivileged learners. You will find out that most bright students in Community day Secondary schools are either orphans or they just Lack most basic things. I want us to join hands to help these needy students. I know we can. The amount they fail to raise to pay school fees sometimes you would wonder, how is that possible? Yes, people out there struggle.
Let's show some love and make our nation a better place.
Goal
-Assist in achieving quality education in community Day Secondary schools through:
1. Provision of exercise books
2. Paying school fees for the less privileged students- This will be extended and open to any needy student across Malawi not necessarily in the target schools now - so long we have evidence that the student is in need.
Methodology
- The exercise is supposed to start as soon as possible in the southern region of Malawi especially in some few selected schools in Neno District.
- There will be an ongoing campaign requesting for donations either monetory or exercise books. The reason for this will be to distribute at least 20, 000 exercise books in atleast 4 schools at the beginning of each term.
- We hope to reach out to as many schools as we can all things constant.
Transparency and Accountability
As the founder of the initiative and everyone involved we shall try as much as possible to keep the people updated right on our fb page on what has transpired.
We know and appreciate the perceptions regarding money and other charity related items, so in this regard...We have to assure the masses that every coin or material things shall be accounted for. Because by the end of the day, we just want to help that capable learner in the very typical areas of Malawi to realise their dream through education.
