The seeker said to Life
"How may I gain mastery over life?"
And Life replied,
"I will teach you to be fearless,
But first, I will teach you to be afraid.
I will teach you to rise,
But first, I will teach you to stumble.
I will teach you to be successful,
But first, I will teach you to experience failure.
I will teach you to be confident,
But first, I will teach you to face self-doubt.
I will teach you to be loving,
But first, I will teach you to understand heartbreak.
I will teach you to be joyful,
But first, I will teach you to endure sorrow.
I will teach you to be independent,
But first, I will teach you to rely on others.
I will teach you to be optimistic,
But first, I will teach you to feel pessimism.
I will teach you to be adventurous,
But first, I will teach you to deal with uncertainty.
I will teach you to be accepting,
But first, I will teach you feel rejected.
I will teach you to be enlightened,
But first, I will teach you to feel ignorant.
I will teach you to be hopeful,
But first, I will teach you to feel despair.
I will teach you to be resilient,
But first, I will teach you to face adversity.
For in fearing, you will find fearlessness
In stumbling, you will learn to rise.
In experiencing failure, you will achieve success.
In doubting yourself, you will learn to gain confidence.
In understanding heartbreak, you will learn to love.
In enduring sorrow, you will discover joy.
In relying on others, you will embrace independence.
In feeling pessimism, you will learn to find optimism.
In dealing with uncertainty, you will become adventurous.
In facing rejection, you will learn acceptance.
In feeling ignorant, you will attain enlightenment.
In experiencing despair, you will find hope.
And in confronting adversity, you will become resilient."
