PLAN INTERNATIONAL MALAWI HANDS OVER PROJECT ASSETS TO LISAP TO SUSTAIN COMMUNITY IMPACT

Mzimba communities continue to benefit from development interventions after Plan International Malawi officially handed over project assets to the Livingstonia Synod Action programme (LISAP).

The handover is part of efforts to ensure long-term sustainability of initiatives that improve community welfare.

The ceremony marked the formal transfer of materials used under the “Child Not Bride” project, including three laptops, two motorbikes, android phones, and office furniture. Although the project has concluded, the assets will continue to sustain gains made by LISAP in reducing effects of Child marriage and teen age pregnancies to improve positive school outcomes.

Plan International Malawi emphasized that the transfer will help LISAP monitor and implement all its projects more effectively, ensuring resources continue benefiting communities.

“ The transfer will go a long way in promoting the localisation agenda by giving LISAP capacity to monitor and support communities beyond the funded phase. The presence of LISAP on the ground is crucial is maintaining the foot print of the Child Not Bride project’’ . Said the program area manager Atusaye Nyondo

Speaking at the event, the Head of Finance at LISAP expressed deep appreciation, highlighting the long-standing partnership between the two organizations:

“These assets will greatly support our follow-up work on other projects here at LISAP. This handover means a lot to us not only because of the materials themselves, but because it reflects the strength of our partnership. Our relationship with Plan International Malawi goes back more than 20 years. In one of our earlier projects together, we were given a motorcycle at the close of the project, and now we have received two more. This gesture has truly strengthened and cemented our partnership.”

The handover reinforces the commitment of both organizations to ensuring that development efforts remain impactful long after project completion.

LISAP Distributes 2,000 Banana Suckers to Youth Clubs in Chikwina

The Livingstonia Synod AIDS Programme (LISAP), through the Every Youth Empowered Project (EYEP), has distributed 2,000 banana suckers to four youth clubs in Chikwina — namely Vidina, Mgonapasi, Liluzi, and Succeed.

Speaking to the Public Relations Officer for Vidina Youth Club said the support will have a lasting impact on the lives of the youth.

“We are very thankful to LISAP for this support,” said the officer. “Once we plant these banana suckers and they start producing, we will be able to sell the bananas and earn income. This will help us sustain our families and make our clubs more productive. It’s an opportunity that will keep benefiting us for years to come."

Augustine Munthali, the Project Officer for EYEP, said the initiative will bring great economic benefits to the youth, especially since banana farming is currently profitable.

“This will really benefit the young people because bananas are making more money right now,” Augustine explained. “The environment in Chikwina is very suitable for banana production, so the suckers will grow well and multiply. We believe this will motivate the youth to take agriculture seriously and improve their income levels.”

The Livingstonia Synod Aids Programme (LISAP) has urged community structures in Upper Zilakoma, Nkhata Bay District, to take full ownership of child-centered initiatives following the successful completion of the Child Ambassador Model (CAM) project in the area.

During a colourful ceremony held at Makumbo , LISAP celebrated transformation under the CAM initiative a programme implemented with support from Help a Child Malawi.

Speaking during the event, LISAP Acting Head of Programmes, Gilbert Phiri, said the organisation was proud to witness the positive change brought about through the project, particularly in promoting early childhood education, nutrition, and child protection.

“At the moment, we are happy that we have established 11 modern early childhood development centres. And also nutrition has improved, and children are now well stimulated to join primary school,” phiri said.

He added that LISAP’s phased exit signifies trust in the community’s ability to sustain the work, including supporting Early Childhood Development Centres (CBCCs), clean water initiatives, and integrated farming activities.

In her remarks, Tina Gutani Banda, Programmes Manager for Help a Child Malawi, applauded the partnership with LISAP and the commitment shown by community members. She encouraged them to keep the momentum by using the skills and resources gained to continue improving children’s lives.

“This project has proved that when communities are empowered, they can drive their own development,” Banda said.

Representing the local leadership, Traditional Authority Zilakoma commended LISAP for transforming the area, noting that before the project’s introduction, most children lacked access to early childhood learning facilities.

He pledged continued community support to ensure that all the initiatives remain active and beneficial to generations to come.
