Primary Schools CSE Programme Consultation - Mpamba, Nkhata Bay.

We're on the ground in Mpamba, Nkhata Bay, working directly with primary schools on the Comprehensive S*x Education programme. Today we're consulting with headteachers, PTA members, and community opinion leaders to find practical solutions to reduce early marriages, teenage pregnancies, and school dropout.

The reality is stark: A school may have three Standard 6 classes, which drops to two classes by Standard 7, and only one class remains by Standard 8. The dropout rate is alarmingly high.

We must come together to find solutions for the next generation. This is our third year conducting research and shaping this programme.

Our doors are open for partnership. Let's work together. Pace for Social Change National Youth Council of Malawi National Planning Commission of Malawi United Nations UNFPA Malawi UNICEF Malawi

APAUSE Meets Headmasters in Lupaso Zone to Address School Dropout Drivers.

On Friday, 17th April 2026, Apause Organisation held a meeting with headmasters from Lupaso Zone to discuss challenges facing primary school learners that contribute to STIs, teenage pregnancy, and early marriages.

Following the success of its secondary school programme, Apause has been requested by primary schools to develop a similar intervention to help learners complete their primary education.

Apause is currently conducting baseline data collection to understand the depth of these challenges, supported by data from selected secondary schools. Fieldwork is ongoing. This marks the third year of our work on this issue, and data collection in Nkhata Bay has already been completed. Peter Mumba Pakaya Initiative Pace for Social Change Favour Lwinga

Apause Organisation Participates in EIS Awareness Workshop in Blantyre.

_Blantyre, Malawi_ — Apause Organisation took part in a stakeholder engagement workshop organised by the Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) in collaboration with the Human Rights Consultative Committee (HRCC). The workshop was held at Malawi Sun Hotel in Blantyre.

Speaking during the engagement, Executive Director Peter Mumba expressed appreciation to HRCC, the Presidential Advisor on NGOs in Malawi, and MRA for organising the important workshop.

“It is good that we are learning. However, many Malawians still do not understand these taxes, and more awareness and engagement is needed with all stakeholders,” said Mumba.

*Strengthening Awareness on Tax Reforms*
The workshop focused on the newly introduced Electronic Invoicing System (EIS), which replaces the long-standing Electronic Fiscal Devices (EFDs). The system aims to enhance transparency, efficiency, and compliance in tax administration.

MRA has intensified awareness efforts following resistance from some sectors of the business community, emphasising the need for inclusive engagement with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs).

*Strategic Engagement and Dialogue*
Commissioner of Domestic Taxes, Grey Balawe, highlighted the importance of continuous dialogue:

“This engagement ensures that civil society understands the new system and can accurately communicate its benefits. We will also continue engaging traders to improve understanding and acceptance.”

*Promoting Transparency and Accountability*
HRCC Board Chairperson, Robert Mkwezalamba, welcomed the initiative while stressing the importance of evidence-based analysis:

“We aim to understand the objectives of this taxation system and its impact on Malawians so that we can effectively play our oversight and advocacy role.”

He emphasised three key priorities for CSOs:
1. Understanding the objectives of the EIS
2. Assessing its impact on citizens and businesses
3. Ensuring transparency and accountability in implementation. Luther Mambala

APAUSE Officer Attends Training on Briquette Production and Permaculture.

On 15th April 2026, Favour Lwinga, Administration Officer at APAUSE Organisation, participated in a training session on briquette production and permaculture manure making. The training was held at Bishop Model Life Farming Center and organised by Malumbo Mkinga of the Green Girls Platform.

The session focused on soil degradation — a major environmental challenge undermining agricultural productivity. Participants examined the causes and effects of soil degradation, including declining soil fertility and reduced crop yields.

Practical solutions were emphasised, with a strong focus on permaculture manure as a sustainable, eco-friendly method for restoring soil health. The training demonstrated how organic manure improves soil structure, boosts nutrient content, and supports long-term agricultural sustainability.

Briquette making was also introduced as an alternative energy source to reduce reliance on firewood, helping curb deforestation and promote environmental conservation.

The session was informative and empowering, equipping participants with practical skills to tackle soil degradation and champion sustainable practices in their communities.

Apause's Project officer Fovour Lwinga was at the Youth Economic Town Hall Meeting in Mzuzu yesterday!

Young people spoke boldly about Malawi's economic challenges - corruption, debt, budget deficits. Key demands: youth-friendly loans, more rep in governance, skills-based opportunities, and clear economic info. MEJN, Oxfam, ECAMA, and MISA Malawi hosted the event, empowering youth to shape Malawi's future. Let the youth demand what they want and shape it.
