🌿 A seed shared today can feed a community tomorrow 🌿

Today, as we are in the , we had an inspiring interaction with over 20 young people from Timvane Youth Club in Mzuzu already engaged in vegetable gardening, sharing experiences, discussing challenges, and explored how together we can create stronger and more sustainable food systems.

Our journey focuses on: 🌱 Indigenous seed promotion 🌱 Organic manure application 🌱 Food preservation 🌱 Value addition 🌱 Sustainable food production

This coming week, on Tuesday, we will continue with practical sessions on food preservation, value addition, and seed sharing to help reduce food waste and increase the value of locally produced foods.

When communities share seeds, skills, and knowledge, they create lasting solutions for food security and environmental sustainability.
We are proud of us being the Green Youth Champions for Food Justice🎉 and thank you SAFCEI for the support.

Our Programs Officer Lilie Gondwe had the privilege of participating in the Youth-Led Advocacy Toolkit Training this week of 23rd-26th June in Lilongwe. This was organized by Youth Wave, with support from UNESCO's Our Rights, Our Lives, Our Future (O3) Programme and technical assistance from MUBAS.

As an organization committed to empowering young people, promoting gender equality, and healthcare access which includes SRHR information and services, this training strengthened our capacity to engage in evidence-based advocacy and meaningful youth participation. The knowledge and skills gained will support our efforts to amplify youth voices, influence positive change, and contribute to the development of healthier and more informed communities.

We are grateful for the opportunity to learn, connect, and collaborate with fellow youth-led organizations from across Malawi as we work towards a future where every young person can realize their rights and potential.

Extra Mile team represented by Towera Ngwira and Matthew Tembo was privileged to participate in the Policy Engagement/Advocacy and Proposal Writing Training held from 22nd–26th June 2026 in Mponela, Dowa.
The training, organized under the Women and Girls Fund (WGF) a program commissioned by the Scottish Government and facilitated by Ecorys UK, FAWE Malawi, and Malawi Human Rights Resource Centre (MHRRC) aimed to strengthen the capacity of Women and Girls-Led Organizations (WGLOs) to influence policy, amplify the voices of women and girls, and develop competitive, fundable project proposals.
The knowledge and skills gained will enhance our advocacy efforts and improve our ability to mobilize resources for programmes that advance gender equality, education, health, WASH, and women's economic empowerment. We extend our sincere appreciation to the WGF and all implementing partners for investing in the growth of WGLOs.

Extra Mile joined fellow CSOs on 23rd June 2026 in the Northern Region for a capacity-building training organized by Oxfam in Malawi and WOLREC under the EU-funded Promoting Gender Transformative and Youth-Inclusive Democracy in Malawi Project. Together, we are strengthening our ability to advocate for inclusive governance and women's political participation.

In the spirit of Give to Gain, we engaged over 300 adolescent girls at Lukalazi Community Day Secondary School on the outskirts of Mzuzu. We discussed menstrual hygiene management, safe relationships, and the importance of working hard in school to attain college education. We also inspired the girls by sharing our own stories of triumphing through challenges and inequalities, reminding them that their circumstances do not define their future.

As we commemorate International Women’s Day 2026, we reaffirm our commitment to keeping girls in safe schools, ending child marriages, and promoting sustainable solutions such as training girls to sew reusable sanitary pads. When we empower girls with knowledge, skills, and hope, we help shape a generation that will rise beyond barriers.

EMDEF works across three pillars: Girls’ Health & Dignity, Safe & Inclusive WASH, and Economic Resilience & Food Security.

Purpose of the Role
EMDEF seeks a young female legal professional to serve as a Board Member, providing legal insight, governance oversight, and strategic guidance to strengthen organizational accountability and compliance.

Requirements

Female, aged 35 years or below

Background in Law (LLB, ongoing legal studies, or equivalent)

Interest in gender equality, human rights, youth development, or social justice

Willingness to serve in a voluntary capacity

Strong ethics and commitment to good governance

Availability for board meetings and strategic engagements

Key Responsibilities

Provide legal and governance guidance

Support policy review, compliance, and accountability systems

Contribute to strategic planning and oversight
