We are pleased to announce the successful repair and restoration of the borehole in Nthembe ya Mwana Village, located in the Kamwe area,Mzimba North which had been non-operational for the past three years. This important milestone was achieved with the active involvement of the local community and the expertise of our team.

On November 14th, 2025, work began on the borehole, and by November 17th, 2025, it was fully operational, providing the community with reliable access to clean water once again. The project involved critical concrete and cement work, with local community members playing a key role in the renovation process. Their hands-on involvement has helped ensure the long-term durability of the borehole.

In addition to the technical repairs, our RDP staff facilitated hygiene education sessions for local women, emphasising the importance of clean water maintenance and proper hygiene practices. To further support these efforts, we also distributed visual aids designed to guide the community in both proper borehole upkeep and household-level hygiene practices, helping families maintain safe and healthy water usage every day.

This project marks a significant step forward in improving the quality of life in this village, and we are proud to have worked alongside such a dedicated community to bring clean water back to the village.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed to this project. Together, we are creating lasting change.

At RDP, we believe that awareness is the first step toward lasting change. That's why we're excited to share our recent initiative to promote hygiene and sanitation practices among students in our community!

Recently, with the generous support of ๐€๐๐ข๐ง๐š ๐๐ž๐ง๐ข๐š and our talented students, we designed and installed eye-catching infographics at three primary schools in Engucwini and Kamwe sections: Mkamaumoza Primary School, Madise Primary School in Madise, and Vongo Primary School. These colourful visual reminders focus on essential hygiene and sanitation practices, including washing hands thoroughly after using the toilet, maintaining cleanliness while eating, and keeping school borehole areas clean and dry.

The infographics have been strategically placed at toilets and borehole stations, right where students need them most. These visual tools will serve as constant reminders, encouraging students to practice good hygiene and sanitation every day.

Adina Benia shared her thoughts on the initiative:

"These infographics will serve as constant reminders to our students. Every time they use the toilet or fetch water from the borehole, they'll be reminded to wash their hands and keep the surrounding areas clean and dry, not just for themselves, but for everyone in the community who uses these facilities. This simple step can help us reduce diseases caused by poor hygiene and sanitation."

Good hygiene and sanitation are powerful tools in preventing illness and creating healthier communities. Together, we can say no to diseases caused by poor hygiene and sanitation. Let's join hands and make a difference, one clean hand at a time.

Educating children is one of the most powerful ways to achieve sustainable development. Recently, Rural Development Partners (RDP), with support from Love a Village (Canada), conducted a Sanitation and Hygiene Awareness Campaign across four primary schools in Kamwe and Engucwini sections, namely: Kalaza, Mkama Wumoza, Rukulu, and Luhawan. The campaign inspired both students and teachers to embrace hygiene as a daily habit.

Through exciting and interactive activities such as drama, music, poetry, and competitions (including dancing, singing, and quizzes), students learned about the importance of body, home, and school hygiene. The sessions encouraged them not only to practise good hygiene themselves but also to share these lessons with their families and communities.

To support the initiative, RDP distributed soap and toothbrushes to the learners and donated two handwashing buckets to each school. The joy and enthusiasm shown by the students were truly inspiring, proving that change begins with awareness and participation.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Love a Village (Canada) for their continued partnership and support in promoting hygiene and health among schoolchildren.

Together, we can build cleaner, healthier communities.
Letโ€™s join hands for a hygienic and sustainable future!

A few days ago, we celebrated the rehabilitation of the borehole at Vongo Primary School, now providing clean water to 600+ learners and the surrounding community. On 30th September 2025, Rural Development Partners (RDP) went a step further by training the community to ensure this water source lasts for generations.

The session brought together the new Water Point Committee, parents, teachers, leaders, and 25 students. They learnt proper hygiene at the borehole, safe water use, and the importance of contributing a small fund for maintenance tools.

Miss Adina Benia inspired students to lead as young water stewards, urging them to report damage early and set an example for others. The day was brightened by a learnerโ€™s moving poem, โ€œWater is Life,โ€ which reminded all of the value of safe water.

The Deputy Headteacher praised RDP for fulfilling a long-awaited promise, pledging that the community will safeguard the borehole for years to come.

At RDP, we believe sustainability comes from community mobilisation, ownership, and empowerment. By equipping communities with skills and responsibility, we are not just fixing boreholes; we are securing health, education, and resilience.

Join us in spreading the message: Water is life โ€” letโ€™s protect it together!

Just last time, we shared how Vongo Primary School went over many years without clean water after their borehole broke down. Learners and teachers had no choice but to fetch unsafe water from the Rukulu River โ€” the same river used for bathing, washing clothes, disposing of agricultural chemicals, and where livestock and other animals also drank.

But today, we bring you good news!

Rural Development Partners (RDP), with the generous support of ๐€๐๐ข๐ง๐š ๐๐ž๐ง๐ข๐š, has rehabilitated the abandoned borehole, restoring safe and reliable water to over 750 learners, 7 teachers, and the surrounding community, which comprises more than 100 households.

This borehole is more than water โ€” it is health, dignity, and hope restored to Vongo. Together, we can do more. You too can be part of this change.

For more than 11 years, Vongo Primary School and its surrounding community lived without access to clean and safe water. When the schoolโ€™s borehole broke down, students and teachers had no choice but to walk over 3 kilometres to fetch dirty water from the Rukulu River โ€” the same river used for bathing, washing clothes, and for animals to drink.

The impact was severe. Cholera outbreaks claimed lives, and many children missed school. Some stayed home because they felt shy to go without bathing, while others arrived late after long walks for water and feared punishment. Teachers, too, were affected โ€” over the years, many requested transfers, moving out because of the lack of a reliable water source.

However, change began when Rural Development Partners (RDP), in collaboration with our partner Love a Village from Canada, provided Vongo Primary School with a water filter in 2024. This simple yet powerful tool now ensures that 750 learners and 7 teachers have access to clean and safe drinking water right on school premises.

In the words of the headteacher:

โ€œLife has been very hard for us, but the coming of the RDP brought us hope. The water filter is helping our students to stay healthy and safe from waterborne diseases. Already, we have seen an increase in the number of learners attending school, because they know they can drink clean water while they are here. We are very thankful, and we look forward with hope, since RDP and their partners have promised to try their best to bring a permanent water source closer to us.โ€

At RDP, we believe that every child deserves the dignity of learning in a healthy environment. We are grateful to Love a Village (Canada) for their support in making clean water available to Vongo Primary School.

Together, we are not just providing safe water โ€” we are keeping children in school, giving teachers a reason to stay, and restoring hope for the future. With you giving hands, together we can do more than this.

At Rural Development Partners (RDP), training rural communities is a key component in achieving sustainable development.

Through our Sewing Programme, 14 women from Chipalamoto and Kapatavingwe Shaba villages in Emanyaleni are gaining valuable sewing skills that will enable them to start small tailoring businesses. With these skills, they can earn an income, support their families, and meet their daily needs.

Thanks to the generous support of our partner Love a Village (Canada), the women have received sewing equipment, including two sewing machines and fabrics, to help them practice and grow.

RDPโ€™s sewing instructor, Memory Mwalwanda, proudly shared:

โ€œThe women are adapting quickly to sewing. So far, theyโ€™ve learned to make dresses, trousers, shirts, handbags, and pillowcases. Next, we will move into sewing laptop bags, reusable pads, and other important items. I also teach them about hygiene, which is equally important for their well-being.โ€

This programme is more than just sewingโ€”itโ€™s about empowerment, self-reliance, and dignity. Together, we are stitching a brighter future for rural women and their communities.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Join us as we continue to transform lives. Letโ€™s build together, letโ€™s empower together!

This week, Rural Development Partners (RDP), with the generous support of our partner Love a Village (Canada), proudly distributed bee suits to the clubs we are working with. We began with two clubs โ€“ Mwanamwene Beekeeping Club and Nthembeyamwana Beekeeping Club โ€“ each receiving two bee suits.

The villagers could not hide their joy. Smiles and laughter filled the air as they expressed their excitement about being well-equipped for their beekeeping initiatives. With the right gear in place, they are now confident of smart, safe, and productive honey harvesting.

And the journey doesnโ€™t end here! Next week, we will complete this program by giving suits to the remaining two clubs.

At RDP, small steps like these bring lasting change. With empowered clubs, safe beekeeping, and better harvests, we look forward to seeing communities thrive with sweet success!

Yesterday, we celebrated households from Mawa Village and Thera Village in Madise, Chipalamoto Village in Emanyaleni, and Nthembe Yamwana Village in Kamwe, for their outstanding commitment to turning our Integrated Homestead Farming (IHF) training into real action.

Months ago, these households participated in our IHF training, learning about hygiene and sanitation, crop diversity through backyard gardens, livestock management, manure production, water storage, and the construction of clean, well-ventilated kitchens, standard toilets with handwashing stations, dish racks, and other home improvements.

Following assessments in the four villages, the top-performing households were recognised for excelling in these initiatives. They received practical awards such as panga knives, hoes, soap, slashers, and buckets โ€” tools to help them sustain and expand their efforts.

This awards day is more than just a celebration; it is a way of motivating communities to continue working on the initiatives they have learned and inspiring others to follow their example.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Love a Village (Canada) for their generous support, which makes it possible to equip rural communities with skills, tools, and hope for a self-reliant future.

From Wednesday to today, Rural Development Partners (RDP) joined farmers, organisations, and stakeholders at the 9th Mzimba North Agriculture Fair held at Tayifa Mzuzu Ground. The three-day event was a vibrant space where farmers connected with customers, discovered market opportunities, and built lasting relationships.

RDP proudly showcased pure honey harvested by farmers we have supported with beehives, Mwavi and Giant Bamboo seedlings for sustainable forestry, water filters to ensure access to safe and clean drinking water, and beautiful handmade bags crafted by farmers during the off-farming season through our training programmes.

The Guest of Honour, Mzuzu Agricultural Development Division (ADD) Programme Manager Mr. Underson Chikomola, described the fair as a powerful platform for strengthening market linkages and the agricultural value chain. He noted that such initiatives align perfectly with Malawi Vision 2063, which aims to create a self-reliant and economically empowered nation.

We are proud to have supported this event both through our participation and financial contribution. As we close the fair today, RDP remains committed to empowering rural farmers, creating market opportunities, and building a stronger future for our communities.
