Today, Project Lusangazi advocates together with Habitat for Humanity Malawi under the Home Equals Advocacy Campaign, held a successful engagement with duty bearers to follow up on the drainage, sanitation, and safety concerns raised during the community outreach in Masasa on 4 June 2026.

During the meeting at Kawuwa Primary School, duty bearers shared the progress they have made so far and outlined the next steps, including mobilising community members to construct a drainage system and dig a water harvesting pit to help address the challenges.

The team also engaged Group Village Head Thula, who proposed practical solutions to support households whose homes are at risk of collapsing thus reinforcing the importance of community-led action in addressing housing challenges.

The engagement demonstrated a shared commitment among community leaders, duty bearers, and advocates to finding sustainable solutions and advancing the right to safe, adequate, and dignified housing for all.

Today, our Cordinator, Matthew Bota, and Project Lead, Esther Nia, are in Lusangazi attending the funeral of Mr. Ngwira, who passed away yesterday while receiving treatment at Mzuzu Central Hospital.

Mr. Ngwira has left behind his wife and three children. His family is among the households currently being supported through Project Lusangazi.

We are deeply saddened by this loss, it was our sincere hope that Mr. Ngwira would witness the completion of the home that is being built for his family. While that dream will not be realized in the way we had hoped, our commitment to stand with and support his family remains unwavering.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Ngwira family, friends, and the Lusangazi community during this difficult time.

May the soul of Mr. Ngwira rest in eternal peace.
