Tiyeni

Tiyeni Tiyeni's mission is to end food poverty and to improve water security through our innovative climate-smart agriculture method, Deep Bed Farming.

With little more than pickaxes and some training, thousands of farmers have dramatically increased their crop yields from one harvest to the next - with long-lasting results. Tiyeni is a small UK charity organization, operating in all 3 regions of Malawi. The Tiyeni office is situated in Mzuzu, northern Malawi.

๐ŸŒฑ Wisdom Wednesday: Farming as a Business, Not Just a Practice

Deep Bed Farming (DBF) is not only about restoring the land โ€” itโ€™s about transforming lives.

When farmers adopt DBF, they donโ€™t just improve their soil. They increase yields, reduce risk, and unlock opportunities beyond subsistence farming.

๐Ÿ’ฌ โ€œA healthy field is the foundation of a thriving livelihood.โ€

With higher and more reliable harvests, farmers can:
โœ” Feed their families with confidence
โœ” Sell surplus produce and earn income
โœ” Invest in their farms and futures

DBF empowers farmers to become agro-entrepreneurs โ€” turning hard work in the field into sustainable income and long-term resilience.

๐ŸŒ Strong soils. Strong harvests. Strong livelihoods.

๐ŸŒฑ Motivation Monday: Grow Smarter, Harvest Better

Every great harvest starts with a decision; a decision to do things differently.

With Deep Bed Farming (DBF), farmers are not just planting crops.
They are restoring their soil, conserving water, and building resilience for the future.

๐Ÿ’ฌ โ€œWhen you take care of the soil, the soil takes care of you.โ€

This week, letโ€™s remember:
โœ” Preparation today brings abundance tomorrow
โœ” Small changes in farming can lead to big impacts
โœ” Resilience is grown, one bed at a time

๐ŸŒ DBF is more than a method โ€” itโ€™s a movement towards sustainable farming and food security.

๐ŸŒฑ Wisdom Wednesday ๐ŸŒฑ

At Tiyeni, we believe real change grows from within communities. Thatโ€™s why lead farmers play such a powerful role.

Lead farmers are more than just traineesโ€”they are champions of knowledge, passing on what theyโ€™ve learned to follower farmers and supporting them every step of the way. Through this peer-to-peer approach, we are able to reach farmers that we might not otherwise access, expanding impact far beyond our direct touch.

Because of this, we hold our lead farmers in high regard. Tiyeni is committed to ensuring they are fully equipped, confident, and supported to train others effectively.

๐Ÿ’ก When one farmer learns, many more can grow.

Farming Against Climate Change

Climate change is already affecting our communities through droughts, soil erosion, and unpredictable rainfall. But together, we can build resilience from the ground up.

Through Deep Bed Farming (DBF), farmers are restoring soil health, conserving moisture, reducing erosion, and improving crop productivity โ€” even in challenging weather conditions.

Every deep bed dug is a step toward:
โœ… Stronger harvests
โœ… Healthier soils
โœ… Food security
โœ… Climate resilience

At Tiyeni, we believe sustainable farming is not just about growing crops โ€” itโ€™s about growing hope, resilience, and a better future for generations to come.

๐ŸŒพ When we care for the land, the land cares for us.

๐ŸŒฑ Celebrating the International Day for Biological Diversity ๐ŸŒ

At Tiyeni, we recognise that healthy ecosystems and rich biodiversity are essential for resilient communities, sustainable agriculture, and climate adaptation. Through Deep Bed Farming, we work alongside farmers to restore soil health, conserve water, and protect the natural environment for future generations.

Biodiversity is not just about protecting nature; it is about securing food systems, livelihoods, and a sustainable future for all.

Today, we join the global community in promoting actions that protect our ecosystems and preserve the rich biological diversity that sustains life on Earth. ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿ๐ŸŒพ

๐Ÿ Happy World Bee Day! ๐ŸŒผ

Today, we celebrate the incredible role bees play in sustaining our environment, food systems, and livelihoods. Bees are essential pollinators, supporting biodiversity and helping farmers produce nutritious crops that feed communities around the world.

At Tiyeni, we recognise that healthy soils, thriving ecosystems, and sustainable farming practices go hand in hand with protecting pollinators like bees. Through climate-smart agriculture and Deep Bed Farming, we work with farming communities to restore land, improve productivity, and promote environmental resilience.

Let us all play our part in protecting bees by preserving natural habitats, reducing harmful chemicals, and promoting sustainable agricultural practices.

Wisdom Wednesday ๐Ÿ’ก

Deep Bed Farming (DBF) is more than just a way to grow food; itโ€™s a pathway to profitability.

DBF does not limit farmers to growing just enough for consumption. Instead, it allows farmers to grow up to five different varieties of crops โ€” not only for household food, but also to save some and sell the rest. This approach creates both food security and income opportunities.

As an agricultural innovation, DBF improves soil health, conserves moisture, and increases yields. But it is also a business innovation โ€” helping farmers treat their fields as income-generating enterprises.

With DBF, farmers can:

Grow up to 5 crop varieties on the same plot
Feed their families while storing and selling surplus
Diversify for better nutrition and market value
Turn small land into a profitable farming business

When farming becomes both productive and profitable, it strengthens livelihoods and builds long-term resilience.

๐ŸŒฑ DBF: Grow diverse. Save smart. Sell more. Build a better future.

๐ŸŒฑ International Day of Plant Health ๐ŸŒ

Today, we celebrate the power of healthy plants; the foundation of food security, nutrition, and resilient livelihoods.

At Tiyeni, this day connects deeply with Deep Bed Farming (DBF) โ€” a method designed to protect and strengthen plant health naturally.

DBF promotes:

๐ŸŒฟ Healthy soils that nourish strong crops
๐Ÿ’ง Moisture retention that supports plant growth even in dry periods
๐ŸŒฑ Crop diversity (up to 5 varieties) to reduce risk and improve resilience
๐ŸŒพ Stronger, more productive plants that can feed families and generate income

Healthy plants are not just about survival; they are about thriving communities and profitable farming. Through DBF, farmers grow crops that are not only productive but also sustainable and market-ready.

๐ŸŒ When plants are healthy, people prosper.

Letโ€™s continue to protect plant health and promote farming practices that secure our future.
