We see young people’s lives shaped by different experiences and realities but one thing for sure is there are remarkably similar aspirations - dignity, opportunity access, meaningful participation, decent work, quality education and a sustainable future - which is what Emerge Livelihoods champions through our vision to unlock a thriving ecosystem that amplifies people and communities to achieve self reliance.

Every year, Emerge Livelihoods contributes towards bettering over 5000 young people’s lives and unleashing their potential so they become better leaders and entrepreneurs.

Together we can do more and join us in celebrating International Youth Day 2026 - Different Contexts, Common Aspirations.

Environmental degradation has affected many communities in Malawi, leaving adolescents and youth to bear the consequences. Through the Green Jobs for Adolescents and Youth project, young people in Ntcheu and Mzimba districts have been empowered with hands-on skills to protect their environment while earning a sustainable income.

Across Luviri, Kapopo and Eswazini Trading Centres in Mzimba District, young entrepreneurs are proving that with the right skills, mentorship and market access, they can build sustainable businesses and create opportunities for themselves and their communities.

Through the Green Jobs for Adolescents and Youth Project, 100 young people completed a business incubation programme and recently connected with customers, financial institutions, government leaders and potential partners through a series of market fairs.

For entrepreneurs like Moses Mbunge, the journey has meant more than increased sales. It has brought confidence, sustainable farming practices, stronger business skills and the ability to earn a stable income. These market fairs are platforms for transforming livelihoods, expanding market opportunities and empowering a new generation of job creators.

Emerge Livelihoods collaborated with Save the Children Malawi, ADRA Malawi and M'mbelwa District Council to support young entrepreneurs who are building resilient businesses and shaping Malawi's future.

We are in Nairobi this week for the Segal 2026: The Next Beat, a gathering of hundreds of organisation leaders, funders, social innovators and policymakers from across Africa and beyond.

Hosted by Segal Family Foundation , the gathering comes at a defining moment for global philanthropy. As donor budgets shift and calls grow louder for locally-led development and solutions, our Managing Director Wangiwe Joanna Kambuzi will engage with peers, funders and partners to discuss ways on how funding decisions can move closer to the communities in driving change.

Emerge Livelihoods believes this is an opportunity to engage with peers reshaping the sector, build partnerships grounded in trust and shared accountability and bring those conversations back to our own work.

Volunteer Spotlight: Jai Lakhanpal, OCP, GPHR

A seasoned business strategy and HR technology leader, Jai has volunteered his expertise across Ghana, Colombia, and St. Lucia from women's economic empowerment programs to e-governance and trade facilitation systems.

He brings in depth and diversity in action as he works across Emerge Livelihoods' departments providing technical and innovation advisory support.

He desires to see youths of Malawi achieve their potential in all aspects of life.

Volunteer Spotlight: Kouame Martin Kouadio

Martin is serving as a Resource Mobilization Advisor with Emerge Livelihoods on a 9-month assignment through World University Service of Canada (WUSC-EUMC) volunteer program.

His focus is collaborating with existing structures to help the organisation build a stronger fundraising strategy including donor mapping, proposal development, training staff in grant writing, and partnership management.

His work also weaves in gender-responsive and climate-smart approaches to funding.
