Play Malawi receives sports equipment from UK partner

By Chrisy Zimba

Play Malawi organization, on 10th February 2026, received sports equipment from it's
United kingdom (uk) partner Lovetennis.

The donated equipment include; tennis balls, Tennis Rackets, Tennis shoes, and sports clothes.

The equipment will help to reach more young people in schools with tennis lessons. In the year we plan to reach 100 students in 5 schools in Nkholongo Zone. The equipment will also boost our tennis program at Mzuzu Golf club which aims at developing young tennis talent.
We thank Mr Joseph Clayton play Malawi's ambassador in the UK,who played a role of delivering the equipment to Malawi.
Ziggy chrispin Kaunda, the Head coach of this team, expressed his gratitude towards the donation.

"We are very happy to receive this equipment from our partners in the UK. It will greatly support our training sessions and help us develop more champions. The children are very excited,โ€ he said.

International Day of Sport for Development and Peace

We join the global community in celebrating the power of sport to transform lives and build peaceful, inclusive societies.
This yearโ€™s theme, โ€œBuilding Bridges, Breaking Barriers,โ€ strongly resonates with our mission and work. Through sport, we continue to connect people across different backgrounds, promote inclusion, and create opportunities that empower individuals and communities.
As an organization, we are deeply grateful for the role sport plays in shaping lives from grassroots participation in schools and local clubs to leadership, coaching, and active contribution to Malawiโ€™s sports sector and the global sporting movement.
While for some sport may be a recreational activity, for us it is a powerful tool for development, empowerment, and social change. It is at the heart of what we do and drives our commitment to nurturing talent, fostering unity, and breaking down barriers that limit potential.
On this important day, we reflect on the impact achieved so far and look ahead with renewed energy and purpose. We remain committed to using sport as a bridge; connecting communities, inspiring change, and creating a more inclusive future for all.
Let this day remind us of the vital role sport plays in uniting people, strengthening communities, and advancing development and peace.

The past two weeks have been incredibly busy as our UK partners worked tirelessly to mobilize sports equipment for our school sports program in Thandaza.
Itโ€™s been a true display of collaboration and teamwork. Weโ€™re happy to share that Joseph, our UK ambassador, met our Malawian family at Heathrow Airport to officially hand over the equipment for the journey home.
A BIG THANK YOU to the amazing Lovetennis community at Hartswood for your generosity.
And heartfelt gratitude to our Malawian family in the UK for facilitating the safe transportation of the equipment to Malawi.

For years, the ITTF Foundationโ€™s TT Dream Building programme has supported community-led initiatives using table tennis to empower women and girls, promote education and gender equality, support people facing social challenges, among many other initiatives across the world.

As our work continues to grow, so does the need for clarity.

We are proud to announce that TT Dream Building has been renamed and rebranded as ๐—ง๐—ง๐Ÿฐ๐—–๐—ต๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ด๐—ฒ.

This new name better reflects what the programme has always stood for: supporting grassroots organisations and local leaders to use table tennis as a tool for

Our mission remains the same, with a clearer and stronger expression.

With TT4Change, we take an important step towards clearer communication, stronger alignment, and deeper engagement with the communities we serve.

As the Year ends, we at Play Malawi would like to express our gratitude to all our partners, volunteers and corroborators for working with us and supporting us to make impact in the community of Thandaza in Mzuzu. 2025 has been a great year of impact; from reaching more young people with the SHAPING THE FUTURE THROUGH SPORTS PROGRAM in partnership with ITTF Foundation, to the construction works of the THANDAZA SPORTS ARENA (which now has a beautiful tennis court and office building partly used as a table tennis hall) to receiving international volunteers. From sending athletes to national and international events to developing new partnerships.

We go into 2026 with a greater resolve to make more impact through sport. The year ahead provides us a great opportunity to engage more schools and communities. Using the powerful tool of sport, we are advancing into new territories and breaking more barriers that stand in the way of a better future for our youth and communities.

TABLE TENNIS TRAINING FOR SPORTS TEACHERS IN NKHOLONGO ZONE
October was a month full of action and progress for Play Malawi! As part of our ongoing efforts to strengthen sports development under the Shaping the Future Project, we brought together 10 sports teachers from five primary schools in the Nkholongo Zone for a hands-on table tennis coaching training.

The workshop focused on equipping teachers with foundational coaching skills, enabling them to effectively introduce and sustain table tennis programmes within their schools. Participants also revisited the objectives of the Shaping the Future Project, reaffirming our shared commitment to using Table Tennis as a tool for education, inclusion, and youth empowerment.

In addition, the training included practical sessions on equipment management teaching participants how to set up, maintain, and safely store table tennis tables and other gear donated to the schools through the project provided by ITTF Foundation.

By investing in teacher capacity and school-level sport structures, Play Malawi is ensuring that the impact of our programmes continues to grow long after the training ends โ€” nurturing active, confident, and inspired young learners across the Nkholongo Zone.
