A True Partner in Development – Temwa Celebrates 21 Years of Community Work
Temwa Organization has marked 21 years of community development work in Usisya, Nkhata Bay North, highlighting long-term investments in education, agriculture, and environmental conservation.
The anniversary celebrations on Wednesday began with a march from Eco Lodge to the organization’s offices, where the main event was held. Exhibitions were mounted to showcase Temwa’s projects and achievements.
The organization said its work has included the construction of a girls’ hostel at Usisya Community Day Secondary School, school blocks, the establishment of 30 Early Childhood Development centers, farmer training in sustainable agriculture and forest conservation, as well as programs aimed at improving community health.
Speaking at the event, Temwa Malawi Country Programs Director Kondwani Botha said the organization has worked with more than 25,000 farmers over the past two decades.
“For 21 years we have worked consistently in Nkhata Bay North, supporting communities in agriculture, health, education, and economic empowerment,” he said. “We have increased forest cover to about 5,000 hectares and supported early grade learning, including bursaries for over 5,000 students.”
Mr. Botha added that under Temwa’s 2025–2030 strategic plan, the organization intends to expand its operations to other districts across Malawi.
Traditional Authority Senior Chief M’bwana praised Temwa for its continued support to the Usisya community.
“Temwa has assisted in many ways. They have built school blocks, a girls’ hostel, and trained our youth in various skills that have improved livelihoods,” he said. “I encourage other organizations to work with Temwa to help develop our area further.”
Nkhata Bay District Community Development Officer Jacob Moloko described Temwa as a “reliable partner”.
“Temwa has consistently engaged with the council, sharing plans and supporting local development initiatives. They are indeed a true partner in development,” he said.
The celebrations featured award presentations, testimonies from community members, as well as music and traditional dances.
