Today, Lyton Newa attended a meeting with the TOPIK Academy F.C staff to review and reflect on the partnership terms outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The meeting also provided an opportunity to assess the current status and preparations for the upcoming Sports Academy Day event.

It's Friday! Help us celebrate Miss Tionge Lungu, Advocacy Officer at Citizen Impact Organisation.

Specializing in Gender and Development, Miss Tionge is passionate, resilient, and accountable. Through the ACTIVE Project, facilitated by VSO, she continues to inspire and empower young people to build stronger, more inclusive communities.

Her work spans youth social and economic advocacy in youth clubs and schools, where she facilitates training sessions and leads activities focused on life skills, leadership, and civic engagement. Her dedication to youth empowerment and social governance is evident in every interaction from mentoring young people to engaging meaningfully with community leaders.

Every day in Malawi too many girls are forced into early marriage, too many miss school because they lack access to menstrual health support, however too many of these young girls face risks to their safety and wellbeing at home, online, and in their communities risks that threaten to steal their future.

At Citizen Impact, we are taking action in keeping girls in school through menstrual health education and by providing reusable sanitary pads and menstrual cups to needy students so that no girl is left behind, We are creating safe spaces through youth clubs, sports, and comprehensive SRHR education in partnership with schools and youth clubs .And we are strengthening safeguarding systems so that every child feels protected, safe, heard, and free from harm.

Child protection starts with all of us parents, teachers, traditional leaders, organisations and young people.

Key Takeaways from Day 2 – 2026 Malawi National Youth Summit

1. Youth employment remains the biggest priority: - Discussions highlighted the need to create decent jobs and support young people to become entrepreneurs, innovators and employers. Agriculture, mining, tourism, manufacturing, creative industries and the digital economy were identified as sectors with strong potential to absorb young people.

2. Skills must match market demands: - There was a strong emphasis on practical, technical and digital skills that respond to current economic realities. Young people need access to vocational training, entrepreneurship support, technology and mentorship to compete in an evolving labour market.

3. Access to finance remains a major barrier: - Young entrepreneurs continue to face challenges in accessing loans, grants and investment capital. Participants stressed the need for youth-friendly financing mechanisms and stronger support for youth-led enterprises.

4. Digital transformation is creating new opportunities: - Technology and innovation are no longer optional. Young people must be equipped with digital literacy, innovation skills and access to technology to participate fully in the modern economy.

5. Climate action and green jobs matter: - Youth can play a major role in climate adaptation, environmental protection, renewable energy and green entrepreneurship. Climate issues were recognised as both a challenge and an opportunity for job creation.

6. Partnerships are essential: - Government, civil society, private sector, development partners and young people themselves must work together. Sustainable youth development requires collective action rather than isolated interventions.

7. Youth participation should influence policy: - Young people called for stronger representation in decision-making processes and greater accountability to ensure that youth priorities are reflected in national policies and development plans.

8. The focus must be on action, not just discussions: - One of the strongest messages from Day 2 was that conferences and policies should lead to practical outcomes, measurable impact and real opportunities for young people.

A summary statement from Day 2: - "Malawi's youth are not only the future; they are partners in development today. With the right skills, opportunities, investment and participation, young people can drive the country's economic and social transformation."

Our Programs Manager, Peter Nyondo is attending this years NATIONAL YOUTH SUMMIT 2026 happening in Lilongwe, BICC.

Day One focused on putting young people at the center of Malawi’s development agenda and Malawi 2063.

Key takeaways:
- Real influence, not just presence

- Youth need to help shape decisions, policies, and budgets, not just attend meetings.
Potential → Productivity

- Skills, capital, tech, markets, and mentorship are needed to turn Malawi’s youthful population into jobs and businesses.Economic empowerment first

- Create pathways for youth as entrepreneurs, producers, and employers, not just job seekers.Go digital

- Expand digital skills, access, and connectivity so youth can build businesses and solve problems online.Partnerships

The shift needed is from “What can we do for young people?” to “What can we do WITH young people?” Development must move from talk and consultation to investment, participation, and measurable impact.
