Citizen Impact Organisation is deeply honoured to have been selected by Oxfam in Malawi to present at the Post-Election Learning Event in Lilongwe, alongside CCSS and SESA. Our presentation focused on People with Disability Participation in Elections a critical pillar of inclusive democracy.

This platform gave us the opportunity to share findings from our grassroots work and engage with policy makers, civil society, and development partners committed to strengthening Malawi’s electoral processes. We are encouraged that our recommendations on removing barriers to political participation for persons with disabilities were well received, and we are hopeful they will inform concrete action ahead of future elections.

CIO remains committed to working with Oxfam, partners, and communities to advocate for a fair, accessible, and inclusive voting space where no one is left behind. We extend our sincere gratitude to Oxfam in Malawi and all partners for convening this vital conversation and for covering logistics to ensure diverse voices are heard.

Together, we are turning lessons into action for a more inclusive Malawi.

CIO recently attended a community meeting at Area 1B Primary School, which was organized by the Mzuzu Youth Office. The meeting brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including block leaders, community police, youth leaders, and councilors, to discuss solutions for youth development. A key takeaway from the meeting was the need to establish Adolescent Clubs in all 15 wards, targeting out-of-school youth between the ages of 10 and 19. The community police emphasized that idle youth are more likely to engage in criminal activities and join gangs. As a youth-led organization, we believe that these clubs can provide a platform for skills development, mentorship, and positive relationships among peers. By engaging youth in meaningful activities, we can reduce crime and promote development.
