Happy International Youth Day 2026!,This year’s theme, “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations”, is a powerful reminder that while young people grow up in different realities across the world, our dreams remain the same. We all aspire to dignity, quality education, decent work, meaningful participation in decision-making, good health, and a sustainable future for generations to come.

At Citizen Impact Organisation (CIO), we see these shared aspirations reflected every day in the communities we serve across Malawi. As a youth- and women-led organisation, our mission is to translate these common dreams into tangible opportunities.

We do this by advancing Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights and menstrual health through youth-friendly services, the distribution of reusable sanitary pads, and free menstrual cups to ensure that no girl misses school because of her period. We are also building skills, entrepreneurship, and livelihoods by supporting youth-led initiatives, including the Mtende Youth Cooperative in bee farming, to create sustainable income and self-reliance.

Further, CIO is committed to economic and digital empowerment through mentorship programs and strategic partnerships that equip young people with 21st-century skills. Through sports and arts programs, we nurture talent, teamwork, and inclusion, creating safe spaces where young people can express themselves and belong. Most importantly, we continue to advocate for the rights and full participation of youth, girls, women, and persons with disabilities, because development must leave no one behind.

No matter the context in which a young person is born, every young person deserves the chance to thrive. Today and every day, Citizen Impact Organisation stands with Malawi’s youth in building inclusive, empowered communities where opportunity is real and potential is unlocked.

Young voices matter, Vulnerable groups voices matter too and at Citizen Impact Organisation, we are making sure they are heard.

Today at the CIO offices in Mzuzu, we held a great discussion with youth under the VSO Malawi Active Project. Through capacity building, advocacy, leadership training, and civic engagement, we are equipping young people to influence policies, lead community solutions, and shape Malawi’s future.

Today, Tapiwa Wazoli, our Assistant Programs Officer, had the privilege of representing Citizen Impact Organisation at the Protection from Sexual Exploitation, Abuse, and Harassment (PSEAH) Assessment Workshop hosted by the United Nations at the Grand Palace Hotel in Mzuzu with other Civil Society Organisations.

The session provided a critical opportunity to evaluate our current prevention and response capacity, identify key operational gaps, and reaffirm our commitment to aligning with UNDP minimum PSEAH standards. As CIO, this assessment is a vital step in strengthening our safeguarding frameworks, ensuring safe and dignified spaces for the communities we serve, and building institutional integrity and partner readiness. We remain dedicated to turning these learnings into concrete actions for lasting accountability and protection. 🔥

Citizen Impact Organisation - CIO was honored to take part in the Mzuzu Youth Open Day organissed by Mzuzu City Youth Network held under the theme "Connecting for Growth at Katooto Ground,Mzuzu."The event created a vital space for youth-led organisations, entrepreneurs, and innovators across Malawi to connect, share experiences, and explore opportunities for collaboration.

As part of our participation, CIO hosted a pavilion where we showcased products from our income-generating activities. These included reusable sanitary pads, bags, menstrual cups and our sports for all acadamy program. The display represented more than products it reflected our commitment to promoting menstrual health, dignity, and economic empowerment for women and girls in our communities ,It was a privilege to present these initiatives to the Guest of Honor and to engage with attendees on how locally made solutions can address both health and livelihood challenges.

The Open Day reaffirmed an important truth that growth is accelerated when we work together. By listening, learning, and building relationships with other youth organisations and businesses, we strengthen the networks needed to drive sustainable change.

At CIO, we remain committed to creating platforms where young people can lead, innovate, and contribute meaningfully to Malawi’s development. Events like the Mzuzu Youth Open Day help us bridge knowledge and experience, and ensure that youth voices remain central to conversations about growth and inclusion.
