Just a quick update on the progress of our ongoing Pig Pass-On Program;
The program is benefitting many poverty-stricken individuals and families in the sense that they're now able to buy food,farm inputs while ensuring food security,buying tin iron sheets to fix the leaking grass-thatched roofs,paying school fees and buying school supplies,crops,paying medical bills,and other basic needs of life after selling their bred pigs.This was not the case before the birth of this lives changing program.However,despite this good revelation,there has been some challenges like lack of pigs feed especially during this period of hunger crisis,outbreak of diseases which made it impossible for the beneficiaries to get their pigs properly treated due to lack of money and because of the current hunger situation,about 3 beneficiaries were tempted to sell the passed on piglets and buy food to save their lives which was against our Memorandum Of Understanding(MOU)but we still understood their desperation for food because they wouldn't be able to be buying the feed for the pigs(maize husks)whose cost was exorbitant while themselves were sleeping on empty stomachs😢
Just recently,Lilongwe District Council has imposed an immediate ban on the movement,
slaughter,and sale of pigs and pork products until further notice following a surge in African Swine fever cases.This measure is aimed at controlling the further spread of the disease.We're therefore civic educating the beneficiaries of the program to fully comply with the ban.Most definately,this ban will affect the program in one way or the other and it's our hope and prayer that things get better as soon as possible🙏
