Ramadan around the world - Hawa from Malawi
"During Ramadan I focus on praising Allah, doing dhikr, reading the Quran and making lots of duaa. I wake up early to prepare Suhoor for my whole family; we usually eat nsima or rice with relish. At Iftar time, we eat cooked sweet potatoes with ground nuts.
During Ramadan I attempt to decrease the amount of television I watch and music I listen to. As we all know, Tarawih is a long pray, but it only comes once a year so it is good to make the most of it and pray in a congregation at the mosque. At the mosque we sometimes break our fast together or recite a portion of the Quran.
My spiritual feelings around Ramadan is similair to the work I do with IR. In Ramadan we practice giving food to the needy, whilst in Islamic Relief we do this throughout the year in Malawi.
Islamic Relief has helped to transform lives of people especially during Ramadan, mainly in remote areas where it is a challenge to obtain food. Islamic Relief delivers food parcels which typically contain staple food allowing them to enjoy Ramadan. After Ramadan we celebrate Eid with my large family of six sisters and three brothers."
This Ramadan, share your relief with those who need it most. Donate to Islamic Relief, so together we can reach even more people this Ramadan, spreading smiles, blessings and relief.
