Last week, the Malawi office held a 3-day training for our partner staff. Our main focus areas were:

We worked hard and played hard. Surely just what the doctor ordered! 😄

A lady and her garden. 🌱

Meet Salome Pingeni - a lady with a "green thumb" if ever we've seen one.
She is a participant of the (SAFI) School of Agriculture for Family Independence Project under our Word Alive partners in Magomero, Malawi.

Her luscious garden is home to a wide variety of fruits and veggies including papayas, guavas, mangoes, carrots, tomatoes, mustard greens, sweet potatoes, pumpkins, chillies, bamboos and even her own turmeric plant to add extra flavour to her hearty meals!
She is also the proud owner of a cow, several pigs and chickens.

What a wonder!

Due to El Niño-induced drought, limited access to job opportunities, above-average prices of food and basic non-food items and rising inflation have resulted in many families unable to access or purchase sufficient food. Many in Malawi are struggling. They are waiting for the Malawi kwacha to devalue again... which would be food will become even more expensive.

Below is the FEWS Net update of the current food security situation and the projected situation in a few months.

World Renew, through funding from the Canadian Foodgrains Bank, and partnering with Nkhoma CCAP, is providing food for 5 months for 8,500 people. We will also be providing sweet potato vines for the families to plant so that in a few months' time, they will be able to harvest food to eat and to sell.

This past week, staff have been hired and trained. We have met with community members and established community committees which will help us with food distribution. We will be registering families who will receive the needed food. We have SO much that needs to be done before we start distributing food the first week of November. Please pray that everything will go smoothly!

This week World Renew staff visited a savings group in the outskirts of Tete, Mozambique. The group has saved over $900 in just five months, a great accomplishment. Savings groups give members access to credit, a way to save for something bigger, and a way to access help in times of need.
