To honor the past is to continue building the future with integrity and determination. On this Kamuzu Day, may we reflect on where Malawi has come from and recommit ourselves to where it can go.

As MCLD we're stoked to empower communities to drive their own development, reflecting on Malawi's journey to shape a future led by local initiatives and sustainable progress.

From Unemployment to Opportunity: Youths Transforming Lives Through Beekeeping in Elangeni

In the rural community of Elangeni, Mzimba District, many young people once faced limited opportunities for income and personal growth. With few jobs available, the future seemed uncertain. But today, a new story is being written.

Through Elangeni Youth Organization, young people are embracing beekeeping as a sustainable income generating activity. What started as a small initiative is now becoming a powerful tool for change.

With basic training and determination, the youths have begun managing beehives and producing honey. This not only provides them with a source of income, but also builds skills, confidence, and hope for a better future.

Beekeeping is also contributing to environmental conservation. This is more than just honey — it is a pathway to self-reliance.

As an organization, they are committed to expanding this initiative, reaching more youths, and improve production through better equipment, training, and market access.

They are ready to welcome partners, supporters, and well-wishers to join in empowering young people and building a self-reliant community.
