One Step Foundation is very happy that its work has been recognized by the Government of Malawi through the Minister of Gender, particularly by the Minister herself, Honorable Mary Navicha, MP. She graced the function that took place at Lilongwe Town Hall with support from BEB. We thank the organization for supporting One Step Foundation by buying water, drinks and snacks in addition to what the Minister brought along.
The Minister interacted with the children supported by One Step Foundation. She was amazed by the work One Step has been doing, despite the fact that it has never received any funding or grants from donors. One Step Foundation has been assisted by individuals who always support the beneficiaries directly, either through school accounts or through the beneficiaries’ personal account numbers.
At One Step Foundation, we believe that helping others does not require someone to have a lot of money. Through this initiative, One Step Foundation has supported a lot of children including 67 Street Connected Children who are now in public universities, as well as 12 children who have been undergoing informal education by being trained in different vocational skills.
At the end of the function held on 24 April 2026, the Minister recognized the work of One Step Foundation and awarded its leadership represented by Mr. Moses Michael Mwalabu, a former Street Connected Child and Executive Director of One Step Foundation with a trophy and a sum of 10 million Kwacha. The money is meant for renovating the Onesfo building given by the Lilongwe City Council which will be used for training Street Connected Children in Lilongwe City in vocational skills. The other portion is meant to buy laptops for the few beneficiaries who have been selected to public universities.
