ANNSI proudly launches its official Position Statement for International Nurses Day 2026 under the global theme: “Empowering Nurses to Save Lives.”

Across Africa and the world, nurses continue to lead on the frontlines of healthcare, humanitarian action, public health, mental health, education, research, and community resilience.

At ANNSI, we strongly believe that empowering young nurses and nursing students is essential to achieving the vision of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the World Health Organization’s priorities for Health for All, and the African Union Agenda 2063 for a prosperous and healthy Africa.

Young African nurses are not waiting for the future. They are already shaping it!

We call upon governments, global institutions, academic sectors, healthcare leaders, and development partners to invest in nursing leadership, education, innovation, workforce protection, and youth engagement in health policy and decision-making.

In 2026, countries like Madagascar and Ethiopia are still facing surges in cases due to geographical isolation and stigma.

At ANNSI, we believe that "Leprosy is curable; the real challenge is stigma." Early detection is the key to preventing permanent disability.

Let’s break the silence and ensure no one is left behind in our journey toward a leprosy-free Africa by 2030.

📍 Fact: Leprosy is NOT a curse. It is a bacterial infection cured by free MDT (Multi-Drug Therapy).
