Faith meets healing in unexpected spaces

We are proud to have successfully delivered a meaningful initiative exploring the intersection of faith and mental health support within correctional settings in Malawi.

This engagement brought together prison authorities and staff from Lilongwe Prison (formerly Maula Prison) and Kachere Prison (women’s facility) to reflect on how faith and spirituality can support psychosocial well-being, particularly for vulnerable and marginalised groups in high-stress environments.

Through dialogue and practical sharing, the sessions highlighted how compassionate, faith-sensitive approaches can complement existing support systems and strengthen care for those in custody.

A sincere thank you to all participating prison teams, religious leaders (Christians/Chaplains and Muslims), and partners who made this powerful engagement possible

The month of March was an emotional one for us at Theatre for a Change Malawi (TfaC) as we bid farewell to an incredible woman whose dedication and compassion have left a lasting impact on our work and the communities we serve.

As Bettie Njala concluded her journey with us on 31 March, we reflected with deep gratitude on her 10 years of outstanding service. Bettie joined us after retiring from the civil service, yet her commitment to serving others only grew stronger.

In her role as Mobile Health Clinic Officer (Nurse and Counselor), Bettie was at the heart of our outreach interventions—bringing essential health services closer to communities, offering care with empathy, and providing guidance that transformed lives. Her passion, professionalism, and unwavering kindness made her not just a colleague, but a pillar of strength for both the team and those we serve.

Bettie, your legacy is one of service beyond duty, compassion beyond expectation, and impact beyond measure.

As you step into your well-deserved retirement, we wish you continued health, joy, and fulfillment. Thank you for the lives you have touched and the difference you have made.

What happens when policymakers step into the story?

We successfully delivered a powerful Legislative Theatre session at the Parliament Building in Lilongwe, engaging Members of Parliament in dialogue on maternal health and public health policy.

Through participatory theatre, MPs stepped into real-life scenarios, explored the realities behind unsafe abortion, and reflected on the social, health, and legal implications affecting women and girls in Malawi.

With participation from key parliamentary committees, including Health, Gender, Legal Affairs, the women's caucus, and Social and Community Affairs, this session created a unique platform for open dialogue, empathy, and policy reflection.

We are proud to contribute to strengthening informed decision-making and advancing conversations that can improve health outcomes.

International Women’s Day 2026

Today, Theatre for a Change celebrates the courage, leadership, and resilience of women and girls across Malawi and around the world.

Every day, we witness the power of women’s voices through community dialogue, participatory theatre, and collective action. From challenging harmful social norms to advocating for sexual and reproductive health and rights, women continue to lead change in their families, communities, and systems.

This year, we honour the women who dare to speak, question, and transform the world around them. Their stories remind us that when women’s voices are heard, communities grow stronger and more just.

At TfaC, we remain committed to creating safe spaces where women and girls can express themselves, build confidence, and influence decisions that affect their lives.

Together, we can accelerate progress toward equality, dignity, and justice for all women and girls.

World Radio Day | Turning Airwaves into Action

Since March 4, 2011, Theatre for a Change’s live interactive radio show, Tisinthe,(Let's Change!) has done more than broadcast; it has built a movement.

🔥 800+ live broadcasts
👥 600+ Radio Listening Clubs
📡 National, regional, and community radio partnerships across Malawi

This is radio programming with purpose.
This is radio programming that changes lives.

At the heart of Tisinthe is our bold methodology:

KNOWLEDGE. ATTITUDES. SKILLS.

🎙 Knowledge that equips communities with real, practical information on SRHR, Health, Education, SGBV, Safeguarding, Mental Health, and Social Justice.

💭 Attitudes that challenge harmful norms, confront stigma, and spark honest reflection.

🤝 Skills that empower people to speak up, seek help, negotiate safer choices, prevent violence, and lead change.

And it doesn’t stop when the mic goes off.

Across schools, institutions, and communities, Radio Listening Clubs keep the conversation alive — transforming discussion into action.

For over a decade, Tisinthe has proven one thing:

When radio is interactive, it is unstoppable.

📡 Not just broadcasting.
📣 Not just awareness.
🌍 But transformation.

This World Radio Day, we celebrate the power of radio to inform minds, shift attitudes, and build skills that create safer, healthier, and more just communities.

Day 16 of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence
Ending digital violence is everyone’s responsibility.

As our world becomes more connected, so does the need to protect each other online. Digital violence, harassment, threats, exploitation, and abuse through technology, continues to silence voices, limit opportunities, and harm lives.

Today, we join M***a, Derick, and Damiano (Theatre for a Change) in reminding communities, tech companies, governments, and individuals that we all have a role to play in creating safer digital spaces.

Let’s commit to reporting abuse, promoting respectful communication, strengthening protections, and standing with survivors.

A safer online world starts with us.

Day 15 of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence

As digital spaces become an essential part of our lives, ensuring their safety, both online and offline, is more important than ever.

Today, we stand with girls everywhere and reaffirm our commitment to protecting their voices, their choices, and their digital freedom.

At Theatre for a Change (TfaC), we continue to champion safe, empowering environments where every girl can learn, connect, and thrive without fear of violence or exploitation.

Let’s work together to make online spaces safer for all girls.

Day 14 / 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence

Supporting Survivors of Digital GBV with Empathy

Digital spaces should be safe for everyone. Yet too many survivors of online harassment, exploitation, and abuse are silenced by fear, stigma, and disbelief.

Today, we are reminded to stand with survivors by practicing empathy in action:
✅ Believe them.
✅ Protect them.
✅ Amplify their voices.

Survivors of digital GBV deserve support without judgment, protection without delay, and spaces where their voices matter. Let us choose compassion over criticism, action over silence.

Together, we can make both our online and offline spaces safer for all.

Day 13 of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence
December 7

Artificial Intelligence is transforming the way we live and work, but it must never become a tool for harm. Today, we stand with women and girls who are increasingly facing AI-generated abuse, including the misuse of deepfakes.

This form of digital violence is real, growing, and deeply damaging. It invades privacy, destroys dignity, and threatens safety.

At Theatre for a Change (TfaC), we believe that technology must empower, not endanger.
We are calling on communities, leaders, and platforms to take action and ensure AI is safe, ethical, and protective of women and girls.

✨ Let’s raise awareness.
✨ Let’s speak out.
✨ Let’s fight deepfake abuse together.

Day 12 of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence
December 6

Women in public life continue to face harassment, intimidation, and abuse, both offline and online. These violations silence their voices, shut them out of leadership, and weaken our collective progress.

At Theatre for a Change (TfaC), we stand firmly for digital equality, safe participation, and the protection of women leaders at every level. No woman should have to choose between serving her community and safeguarding her dignity.

Let’s unite to create digital and physical spaces where women are respected, protected, and empowered to lead.

Consent Matters Online Too

In today’s digital world, online safety is just as important as physical safety. Accessing, sharing, or manipulating someone’s personal content without their consent is abuse, and it has real, devastating consequences.

As we continue the 16 Days of Activism, let’s stand together to create safe digital spaces for everyone.
Respect boundaries. Respect consent. Respect her online.
