Chisankho Watch Pushes for Urgent Electoral Reforms
Chisankho Watch and partner organisations have intensified efforts to address gaps in Malawi’s electoral process, five months after the Presidential, Parliamentary and Local Government elections.
Speaking in Lilongwe during a validation workshop for local observers’ findings, Board Chairperson Bishop Clifford Matonga called for stronger collaboration to harmonise findings and push for comprehensive reforms.
He urged Parliament to amend electoral laws in good time to strengthen democracy.
Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace National Coordinator Lewis Msiyadungu said the process is expected to highlight key concerns requiring advocacy and stakeholder engagement.
Centre for Multiparty Democracy Executive Director Boniface Chibwana raised issues of handouts, women’s representation and misinformation.
The three-day workshop, involving organisations such as the Centre for Multiparty Democracy, Malawi Human Rights Commission and Youth and Society, will submit its recommendations to the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC).
