Chance for Change Malawi C4C is an international NGO that focuses on behavioural change and works with young people in Malawi The Malawi country office was established in 2012.

Registered in 2011 in Scotland, Chance for Change is an international charity working with young people in the UK, Malawi and Nepal. OUR VISION

A world where all young people, regardless of their backgrounds have the opportunity to grow and develop. OUR MISSION STATEMENT

To enable innovative and effective development opportunities for young people who have experienced difficult life circumstance

s. We are a catalyst for growth because we help provide opportunities for vulnerable young people in Malawi to develop their skills and help them to make the changes they need. Chance for Change works with young people who have experienced challenging living conditions when growing up and are ready for their transition to adulthood. We deliver innovative programmes directly to young people with challenging life histories such as homelessness, unemployment or being in conflict with the law. Our goal is to focus on young people’s talents and potential, and help them build the skills and confidence they need for a successful transition to independent adulthood. HOW WE DO IT? PIONEERS OF CHANGE PROGRAM

This is a safe space and powerful growing movement enabling children and young women to break away from sexual abuse, exploitation and trafficking. Pioneers of Change graduates are supported to form powerful support networks which protect other girls from becoming victims. We provide girls with emotional, practical and vocational training which enables them to develop the confidence, self-assurance, self worth and skills needed to become economically independent young adults as well as facilitate personal growth. In weekly workshops they learn about their rights, sexual risk-management, physical /sexual health and essential life skills such as decision making, planning, sexual assertiveness, effectiveness etc. Girls are offered access to healthcare, as well as HIV and STD screening and we provide counselling to girls who have suffered the trauma of abuse. ACCESS TO JUSTICE PROGRAM

This is an innovative and highly successful residential rehabilitation centre and powerful learning environment providing young male offenders, as well as children who have been removed from adult prisons, with skills and a foundation which empowers them to lead successful and economically independent lives free from crime. PILLARS

In both programmes we employ a development model that has been developed and finessed over many years and is based on the "Three Pillars" of Experiential learning, Choice Theory and Reality Therapy, and principle called Advantaged Thinking.

We had an exciting moment with our visitors from International Justice Mission (IJM) Steve Miano and Josephine Aparo who came to appreciate the work we do in combating human trafficking and support offered to survivors of violence especially women and girls.

The engagement underscored the significance of survivor centred programming through co-creation of programs with survivors. This helps to reshape the intervention to reflect the actual experiences and gaps to help better amplify the voices of survivors and access to justice.

As a child protection institution that work in collaboration with Malawi Police Service, C4C Malawi participated in a training on best practice for interviewing children who are the victims or witnesses of varied forms of abuse.

The training by Scotland Police, enhances capacity of police and social work practitioners to conduct child-focused and stress-free interview that encourages child’s confidence to share their experiences and reduce the potential of further trauma.

Through improved planning and interviewing strategies, the skills further enable officers to capture the child’s best evidence and encourage more children to report the violence perpetrated against them.

During the training, C4C Malawi officers shared with police officers some of the key interventions and programs by C4C Malawi that are safeguarding the rights of children particularly girls.

In his remarks, Deputy Director of Community Policing and Rural Units, Supt. Alexander Ngwala hailed C4C Malawi for the good working relationship with police and commendable work in areas of child justice and child protection.
