Shocking statistics! Malawi loses about 250,000 hectares of forest annually, increasing the country’s vulnerability to floods, droughts, heatwaves, and cyclones. The news was reported in the National State of Environment and Outlook Report (NSEOR 2026) that was launched on 5 June 2026 during the World Environment Day and International Day for Biological Diversity commemoration, at Sunbird Capital in Malawi’s capital, Lilongwe. Malawi’s Minister of Natural Resources, Patricia Wiskes, officially launched the report in the presence of distinguished guests, including the United Nations Resident Coordinator, Rebecca Adda-Dontoh, and the Norwegian Deputy Ambassador, Rannveig Rajendra.
