In a bid to alleviate hunger among elderly people and persons with disabilities, Joy Abilities Empowerment (JAE) has distributed maize flour to 71 beneficiaries in Liwonde, Machinga District.
The distribution exercise took place on December 12, 2025, in Liwonde, with support from the Minister of Education, Honourable Bright Msaka, SC.
Speaking during the ceremony, JAE Director Benedetter Vaz said the initiative is part of the organization’s ongoing commitment to addressing food insecurity among vulnerable groups in the district.
She noted that elderly people and persons with disabilities are increasingly struggling to meet their basic needs due to the rising number of calamities affecting their livelihoods.
Vaz emphasized that urgent support is required to sustain their lives before the situation worsens.
Some of the beneficiaries commended JAE for the timely assistance, saying the maize flour will help ease the hunger they are currently facing.
They lamented that food shortages have severely affected their households and appealed to other well-wishers to provide additional support to help them cope with the ongoing challenges.
