We’re excited to introduce our upcoming session, “My Body Belongs to Me – My Voice Matters.”

This is a fun, interactive and age-appropriate session designed to help children (5–10 years) understand body safety, confidence, and how to speak up.

As always, our goal at GEM is to equip our children with knowledge that protects, empowers and builds their confidence in everyday situations.

GEM Tween Workshop!

We had such a practical and engaging session with the children.

We started with a Messy Room Challenge. We improvised a bedroom setup at Lilongwe Play Centre using tables as a bed (luckily that worked perfectly ). When we asked the boys and girls if they recognized the room, they immediately laughed. Some said it looked like their brother’s room, others said their friend’s room… and we all laughed together- even though they go for sleepovers!

We then asked them to work as a team to clean the room. As they were cleaning, we asked questions like what should be done with dirty clothes. This naturally led us into our next activity.

From there, we moved on to washing clothes that were part of the “mess.” Parents had packed light clothes, which made it easier. Some children mentioned that they use washing machines at home, but we reminded them that there will be times when they will need to wash by hand. They washed their clothes, hung them on the line, and we continued with our discussions.

We talked about proper bathing, basic grooming, and taking care of their bodies. We emphasized that hygiene is part of responsibility and also a sign of self-respect. We also discussed proper toilet use. When asked, many shared that they avoid using toilets at school because they are messy. This opened up an honest conversation. We reminded them that those same toilets are used by people like them, coming from good homes, and that change starts with each individual. We talked about simple but important habits like flushing, keeping the seat clean, and not leaving things for someone else to clean. (Yes, we even had to remind the boys to aim properly 🫣😄). They also watched a short video on toilet manners.

We wrapped up the session by talking about emotions—encouraging them to express themselves, not to keep issues inside, and to respect themselves and others. We also challenged them to start helping with small responsibilities at home, especially since many mentioned, “my maid does this.”

Overall, it was a meaningful session, and we hope they will begin to practice what they have learned and been reminded of.

We appreciate your continued support and partnership as we guide the children in building confidence, responsibility, and life skills. We encourage you to continue these conversations at home.

LAST CHANCE! GEM Tween Confidence & Responsibility Workshop – Tomorrow!

Parents, do these sound familiar?
* Clothes lying everywhere!
* Notebooks scattered, “I’ll do it later!”
* Guests arrive and your child disappears into the bedroom instead of at least greeting them and then leaving — kapena munawauza kuti awa akadzabwera osadzatuluka, ha ha!
* Eating from a plate and leaving it behind — mhuu!
* Receiving something without saying “thank you” — mhuu!
* Keeping quiet when upset instead of explaining — ndiye amadzakuuza tsiku lina patadutsa nthawi — mhuu!!

This workshop is designed to turn those everyday frustrations into life lessons. Through fun games, role-plays, and hands-on practice, your child will learn:
- Proper hygiene and bathing during puberty
- Toilet etiquette and respect for shared spaces
- Responsibility for belongings — clothes, notebooks, and school items
- Empathy, kindness, and helping others without delay
- Good manners — greeting elders, saying “please” and “thank you,” respecting homes and friendships
-Healthy phone use and boundaries

No lectures — just interactive activities that make learning stick!

On 6th April 2026, GEM conducted a one-day Boys and Girls Ticheze Mentorship Program for adolescents (13–16 years), creating a safe space to explore friendships, crushes, social media, mental health, goal setting, and personal hygiene.

Young people shared honest expectations—beyond material needs, they called for:
Understanding and emotional support
Respect for privacy and space
Open, non-judgmental communication
Encouragement without pressure

A joint session with parents and guardians allowed them to hear these voices directly, reflect, and respond thereby strengthening mutual understanding.

Key insight: Adolescents are not just seeking provision, but dignity, trust, emotional safety, and recognition as individuals.

The program served as both a mentorship platform and a listening bridge—promoting stronger, more connected families.

This program was organized in preparation for August Ticheze Camps.

A special mention to Studio91 Construction and Interiors for your generous contribution to make this session a success!

Children are not safe where they should be—and that’s a crisis we must confront!

Recent reports shared by Mary Navicha, Minister of Gender and Social Welfare in Parliament, reveal a painful reality. Many cases of child sexual abuse in Malawi are happening in homes, schools, and communities—places meant to protect children.
Some of these cases involve:
• Brothers and close family members
• Parents concealing abuse
• Teachers and head teachers
• Community and traditional leaders
• Even law enforcement
While girls are heavily affected, boys are also being abused and often in silence.
This is exactly why GEM runs the “My Body Belongs To Me” program for children aged 5–10.
Because the truth is:
- Children cannot rely only on adults for protection
- Many are too young to recognize abuse
- Silence and stigma keep them trapped
- Everyday situations can expose them to danger

Through this program, GEM equips children to:
- Understand that their body belongs to them
- Recognize safe vs unsafe touch
- Know that even a “trusted person” can be unsafe
- Speak up without fear or shame
- Report abuse and seek help early
We use age-appropriate tools such as stories, play, songs, and safe conversations to make these lessons stick.
We believe that prevention must start early—
- Before abuse happens.
- Before silence takes root.
- Before a child loses their voice.
Let’s break the silence. Let’s protect our children. Let’s empower them with knowledge.

We’re still smiling from our last session with the teens (13–16/17)… what a powerful time it was. Real conversations, growth, and young people opening up in such beautiful ways.

This coming Saturday, 11th April, it’s now time for our 11–12 year olds
The "Tween" years matter as this is where confidence is shaped and responsibility begins.

And let’s be honest- at this age, many are still struggling with the basics:
- Clothes left lying around
- Books everywhere
- No sense of order or ownership yet

That’s exactly why this space is important.

We will be guiding them in a practical, loving way to grow in responsibility, self-awareness, and daily habits that will shape who they become.

Dear Teens…
We know growing up today isn’t easy.
The pressure to fit in…
to be liked…
to belong…
Sometimes it feels like you have to change who you are just to be accepted.
And as parents, we don’t always see how heavy that feels— the pressure, the confusion, the silent struggles.
But our children don’t have to figure it out alone.
That’s why we created Ticheze Boyz & Girlz— a safe space for real conversations, guidance, and growth.
A place where teens can be heard, understood, and reminded of who they truly are.
Because fitting in should never cost them who they are.

As schools close, our children are growing…
and so are the challenges they face.
At a young age, we teach them:
💛 My Body Belongs To Me — body safety and speaking up
But as they grow, the conversation must grow too.
Because now it’s not just about safety…
It’s about friendships, influence, and identity.
Not every friend is a safe friend.
Some will: • Compete instead of celebrate them
• Influence them into wrong choices
• Pretend loyalty, but lack it
• Shape their thinking in the wrong direction
Our children need more than protection…
They need confidence, character, and discernment.

That’s where GEM comes in:
✨ Tween Workshop (Ages 11–12)
Helping them understand emotions, friendships, and growing up with confidence
✨ Ticheze Boyz & Girlz (Ages 13–16)
Building strong identity, wise decision-making, and healthy relationships

This holiday, don’t just keep them busy…
Equip them for life.
Because who they become tomorrow…
is shaped by what they learn today.
