🌾🍲 Celebrating Malawi’s Food Heritage Through Sustainable Gastronomy 🇲🇼
On 19 June 2026, the World Food Forum Malawi Chapter hosted the Sustainable Gastronomy Week Celebration at the Lilongwe Wildlife Center under the theme “Celebrating Malawi’s Food Heritage.”
The event brought together a diverse group of stakeholders to explore the role of food heritage, indigenous foods, innovation, nutrition, and sustainable food systems in shaping Malawi’s future.
A Keynote Address by Ben Vickers of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) emphasized the importance of sustainable gastronomy in promoting resilient agrifood systems, preserving cultural heritage, and creating opportunities for youth engagement, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
The celebration also featured engaging discussions on the future of Malawi’s food culture and opportunities in sustainable gastronomy, as well as a vibrant sustainable food tasting experience showcasing local foods and culinary traditions.

We sincerely thank all participants and partners who joined us in celebrating Malawi’s food heritage and advancing conversations on sustainable gastronomy.
As we conclude the celebration of celebrate Sustainable Gastronomy Week, we reaffirm our commitment to preserving Malawi’s rich food heritage while empowering young people to lead the transformation of sustainable, resilient, and inclusive agrifood systems.
