Our head office team got their hands dirty today at our Mpingu farm, planting valuable Khaya anthotheca trees in Zone 5. It’s an annual tradition we are proud to uphold, adding to the forest we have been growing for years.

How many trees have you planted this season? Let's inspire each other in the comments!

We're excited to be field testing sustainable agriculture technologies on ZaulimiApp with the goal of making them accessible to farmers across Malawi. This digital innovation in the agricultural sector will help promote eco-friendly farming practices.
ZaulimiApp is a user friendly application which works offline and can be uploaded in basic smart phones.

Let us talk about one of the smartest choices smallholder farmers can make — planting Open Pollinated Variety (OPV) seeds!

Benefits of planting OPV are many including:

Affordable and accessible — OPV seeds are cheaper than hybrids and easy to find locally.
Seed saving - can save and replant them for several seasons without losing quality.
Adapted to local conditions — They perform well even when rains are unpredictable.
Ideal for agroecological farming — They work perfectly in systems that promote soil health and biodiversity.

Have you planted OPV before? Share your experience in the comment section

A successful harvest starts with one key decision, choosing the right crop.

Before you plant, take time to consider:
Soil type and fertility – some crops thrive in sandy soils, others in loamy ones.
Rainfall patterns – match your crop’s water requirementswith the expected rains.
Market demand – grow what people need and will buy.
Seed availability and maturity period – short-maturing crops are ideal when rains are unpredictable.

Which crop is best for rainy season in your area? Let us discuss it in the comment section.
