The Rotary Club of Lilongwe (RCL) has completed the second in a series of it's partner powered tree planting initiatives.

On January 24, 2026, the RCL, in collaboration with FDH and Lilongwe Water Board planted several Mthethe trees at Kauma treatment site.

On 23 rd January, trees were planted along Saulos Chilima Highway, Youth Drive.

This was made possible because of a very generous donation from FDH Bank of seedlings worth 8 million kwacha.

This effort is part of the club's broader goal to plant 10,000 trees across the city this year.

Working closely with the Lilongwe City Council and Lilongwe Waterboard, the club is prioritizing tree survival and long-term sustainability.

Planting trees is a significant step towards environmental conservation, as trees play a vital role in mitigating climate change, maintaining biodiversity, and ensuring clean air.

This initiative aligns with Rotary International's focus area of Supporting the Environment, which emphasizes protecting natural resources, improving environmental sustainability, and addressing climate-related issues.

RCL celebrates Christmas with less previlaged children

The 2025 Rotary Club of Lilongwe's (RCL) annual Christmas party for the less previlaged children, has touched a record 300 children in five care homes.

This year’s annual charity event, held on in Saturday, 13 December, brought together Rotarians who donated essential items to the tune of MK5,335,000.

The donations included food and none food items given to five institutions in Lilongwe:
- Crisis Nursey in Area 14, which supports 24 children (Aged 0 to 5 years)
- Mother Theresa Sisters, which at the moment is supporting 10 children (Aged 0 to 10 years)
- Falls Social Rehabilitation Centre, which supports 42 children and youth (Ages 7 to 19 years)
- Graceland in Area 51, which cares for 200 children living with disabilities
- Tikondane in Area 2, which supports 24 children

Jonathan Banda, an 18‑year‑old beneficiary at Falls Social Rehabilitation Centre, said "this initiative will not only benefit us physically, but also academically", inspiring hope and empowerment for all the children involved.

According to RCL President Rotarian George Naphambo, RCL members felt duty bound to extend love and care to the less previlaged as demanded by the spirit of Rotary.

"While we celebrate Christmas, we remembered that there are friends who need our hand. These children are future Rotarians and we need to nurture them together," he says.

The Rotary Club of Lilongwe celebrates the spirit of Christmas and generosity that made this impactful charity event a success, touching the lives of 300 children across the five
