As we continue raising awareness about public debt and how young people can meaningfully voice out and contribute to debt management as a way of promoting responsible borrowing, today we are hosting Prof. Machira one of senior economists from Lilongwe University of Agricultural and Natural Resources for the second time, building on our previous episode under the program with Timeni Radio, TV and Online.
This session is in collaboration with our consortium partners, including For Equality Quota4Youth-Malawi Timveni Child & Youth Media Organisation and Youth Wave Malawi Today, we are discussing whether Malawi can operate without borrowing, particularly in light of the country’s current debt level, which stands at approximately 24 trillion Malawi Kwacha

Promoting diversity in menstrual health is key to ensuring that everyone has access to safe, affordable, and comfortable options.
Yesterday at the BPF Mtema Sports and Education Community Center, we proudly introduced menstrual cups to our program beneficiaries, expanding their choices beyond traditional products and empowering them to make informed decisions about their bodies.
Menstrual cups are not only reusable and cost-effective, but also environmentally friendly, offering a sustainable solution for long-term menstrual hygiene management.
Through this initiative, we continue to break stigma, encourage open conversations, and support menstrual health education in our community. Because every individual deserves dignity, choice, and confidence during their menstrual cycle.

We are still bringing health services closer to the people!

As we continue addressing the distance gap in remote settings, we collaborated with the DHO, through Area 18 health service providers, to deliver SRHR services to people in Mtandile, Mtsiriza, and surrounding communities.
Services provided included:
• HIV Testing Services (HTS)
• STI screening
• SRHR counselling
• Provision of male and female condoms
• Family planning services (Depo Provera injections, implants, and Microgynon pills)
• Emergency contraceptive pills
• Referrals for further care where needed
Over 200 community members accessed these services.
This activity was conducted under the Achinyamata Tikambilane (AT) Project, implemented in collaboration with Bhubesi Pride Foundation - Malawi NGO.

LUANAR is part of the Achinyamata Tikambilane Project!

In partnership with Bhubesi Pride Foundation - Malawi NGO, we introduced the Achinyamata Tikambilane project through the Bunda Gender Activists Club, aimed at creating safe spaces and promoting open conversations on HIV and unintended pregnancy prevention.

University spaces matter, yet many young people still face limited access to services, stigma, and misinformation.

Through this project, young people will spark conversations, continue learning, speak up, and access the services they need.

A movement of young people organized by Clean Cities Project in collaboration with ActionAid Malawi and other partners demanding by calling for reforms in climate finance and urging financial institutions and governments to prioritize funding toward climate action.

A major throwback to 2025, when we intensified our engagements with young mothers in Mtandile and Mtsiriza communities, reaching over 200 young mothers, including teenage mothers, with vital information on the Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission (PMTCT) of HIV.

As Nurse Veronica said, “A mother’s first weeks after delivery are the most delicate. Early check-ups and timely care can prevent complications and save lives.” This continues to be our message during our Young Mothers’ Friday weekly meetings at the Mtandile hub.

This initiative forms part of our flagship Governance program under Youth Governance and Accountability, led by a consortium of youth-led organizations: YOFONAT, Youth Wave Malawi, For Equality, Quota4Youth and Timveni Child & Youth Media Organisation

Today, we collaborated with Jiangxi Construction Company in Balaka to share our plans to raise awareness among workers involved in the Ntcheu–Balaka road construction project. As part of this initiative, we will also be working in collaboration with the Ministry of Health to bring HIV prevention and related health services closer to the workers on-site.
This engagement is particularly important given the nature of construction work, which often involves mobile and high-risk populations who may have limited access to health services. Providing timely information and accessible prevention services is essential in reducing vulnerability, promoting healthy behaviours, and ensuring that workers are supported both physically and socially.
With over 300 workers at this construction site, we are committed to reaching and supporting every individual through targeted awareness and service delivery, ensuring that no one is left behind.

We had the privilege of hosting the Young Urban Network at our Achinyamata Tikambilane – Young Mothers Hub in Mtandile, a safe and supportive space where young mothers meet every Friday to engage, learn, and support one another.

The visit featured a “Healthy Talk” session delivered by Banja La Mtsogolo, aimed at improving access to essential sexual and reproductive health services while promoting holistic well-being among young mothers. We are particularly encouraged by this engagement, as it brings critical services directly to young mothers who often face barriers in accessing care. Creating spaces where health support meets empowerment is essential in enabling young women to make informed choices, protect their well-being, and build more secure futures for themselves and their children
