We joined the Ministry of Health, through the Reproductive Health Directorate, and other CSOs in a two-day national workshop under the Step Up 4 Access Initiative, supported by Youth Advocates Zimbabwe and Hivos.

The workshop focused on Values Clarification and Attitude Transformation (VCAT), strengthening participants' capacity to provide rights-based, youth-friendly, and non-judgmental SRHR services. It also featured a National Engagement Meeting on Consent, bringing together government, CSOs, youth, and development partners to discuss legal and policy barriers affecting adolescents' access to SRHR services and develop recommendations for more equitable and confidential service delivery.

As YOFONAT, our participation reinforces our commitment to advocating for youth-friendly, rights-based SRHR policies and ensuring that adolescents and young people have improved access to quality SRHR information and services

YOFONAT, together with representatives from the youth constituency under the Pabwalo Ndi Achinyamata Coalition, engaged the United Nations Resident Coordinator in a pre-symposium dialogue ahead of the National Youth Symposium on Public Debt 2026, scheduled for 5th–6th August 2026.
The engagement provided an important platform for young leaders to share their aspirations, priorities, and expectations on public debt, transparency, accountability, and fiscal governance, while strengthening collaboration with the United Nations in advancing meaningful youth participation in Malawi's development agenda.

We sincerely appreciate the United Nations Resident Coordinator and the United Nations Resident Coordinator's Office (UNRCO) for creating this valuable space for dialogue.

The CSO Training Workshop on Public Debt Transparency and Accountability is currently underway, organized by NDI Malawi in collaboration with the National Debt Coalition. The workshop brings together civil society organizations to strengthen their knowledge and capacity on public debt processes, debt management, transparency, and accountability.

The objective of the workshop is to strengthen the technical capacity of CSO leaders to understand public debt concepts and instruments, interpret public debt data, engage with existing accountability mechanisms, and identify practical entry points for advocacy and oversight.

YOFONAT among other youth-led organizations, is representing the youth constituency and building on our ongoing efforts to raise awareness and promote meaningful youth participation in public debt, fiscal governance, transparency, and accountability in Malawi

YOFONAT joined the National Debt Coalition during a high-level dinner engagement with Members of Parliament through the Budget and Finance Committee at Sunbird Lilongwe Hotel. The meeting provided an opportunity to present our position on strengthening transparency, accountability, and the effective management of public debt, aid, and development in Malawi. After the postponement of the 24–25 June 2026 dates, the symposium will now take place on 5–6 August 2026.

Young people, government representatives, policymakers, development partners, economists, and civil society organisations will come together to engage in a critical conversation shaping Malawi’s future:

What does today’s debt mean for our future opportunities as youth?

This platform will create space for meaningful dialogue on public debt, borrowing, fiscal accountability, and public expenditure, while amplifying youth voices on how national debt affects employment, social services, and long-term economic opportunities.

Be part of the conversation. Your voice matters in shaping Malawi’s economic future, organized by YOFONAT, Youth Wave Malawi, For Equality, Quota4Youth-Malawi, Global Platform Malawi and Timveni Child & Youth Media Organisation

Our commitment to climate action through green skills continues to grow, inspired by the resilience and leadership of our Youth Champion, Ms. Romecia Katunga!

Yesterday, under the Waste GOLD Initiative with support from Malawi Environmental Endowment Trust, we trained three youth and women cooperatives based in Mtandile using the One4Ten Cooperative Model, with each cooperative comprising 10 members. The majority of these participants are young mothers who joined our programmes as teenagers three years ago and have continued to grow into community leaders and changemakers.

As part of the initiative, the cooperatives have been deployed to major waste dumping sites, where they are transforming organic waste into high-quality organic fertilizer. This work is not only promoting sustainable waste management and environmental restoration but is also creating green livelihood opportunities and strengthening the economic resilience of young people and women.
Together, we are proving that climate action can create jobs, restore our environment, and transform lives.
