Building a legacy is more than creating something that bears your name; it is about building something that continues to serve humanity long after you are gone. Sustainable development begins when we move beyond individual success and invest in people, empower communities, and create opportunities that future generations can build upon.
Through fellowship, shared purpose, and collective action, we can turn ideas into impact and compassion into lasting change. Because true development is not measured only by what we achieve today, but by what we leave behind for those who come after us.

I cannot sit down and speak only of the hardships I have faced this year without also praising the victories and the encounters that came with them. So much has happened. So many doors have opened, so many unexpected opportunities have found me, and there have been victories I could never have planned for. In the midst of all the tragedy, disappointment, and hurt, there have also been moments that have somehow risen above them—moments that reminded me that the difficult things are not the only things that define this year. There has been so much victory, so much grace, and so many unexpected blessings that to sit here and speak only of the pain, without taking a moment to appreciate what has also been given to me, would be deeply unfair.

The Matron of Bwaila Hospital, Rejoice Nkhata Mwase, shared her appreciation for the donation, describing it as timely, particularly because the hospital often experiences shortages of some of the essential supplies provided.
The birthing kits included sterile surgical blades, cord ties and plastic bags used during delivery simple but essential supplies that can make a meaningful difference in supporting safe and dignified childbirth.
Beyond the supplies, our team also had the opportunity to share knowledge with expectant mothers on their physical health, psychological well-being, birth preparedness and the journey of welcoming their children into the world.
For us at Legacy Foundation, safe motherhood is more than providing materials. It is about equipping, educating, encouraging and standing with women as they prepare to bring new life into the world.

We are deeply humbled to share that Our Executive Director Salem Chinsangu has been nominated for the FOYA Awards 2026 in two categories:

This nomination means more to me than simply being recognised.
It is a reflection of a journey that began with a desire to use what we had, what I had experienced, and what we have learned to create something that could serve others.
Through Legacy Foundation, we have continued to believe that meaningful change does not always begin with having everything. Sometimes, it begins with simply deciding to do something with what is already in your hands.
From mental-health awareness and community engagement to safe motherhood, humanitarian support, youth involvement and advancing the Sustainable Development Goals, every initiative has been about one thing:
creating impact that goes beyond ourselves.
We are grateful to every volunteer, partner, stakeholder, donor, healthcare professional, community member, friend and family member who has contributed to this journey.
And to everyone who has believed in the vision thank you.
Whether or not this journey ends with an award, we are grateful that the work has been seen, the message has travelled, and the lives touched continue to remind us why we started.
Legacy is not about being remembered.
It is about leaving something behind that can continue to serve others.

At Legacy Foundation, every initiative is driven by people who dedicate their time, skills and hearts to advancing the SDGs, promoting safe motherhood, improving health, and uplifting communities across Malawi.
We may each have different roles, but we are united by one purpose: to serve, to empower, and to build a legacy beyond ourselves.
